00:00What do you mean come down off the trapeze into the sawdust?
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at all the exciting biopics coming our way.
00:09Hey, well here, I'll give you something to talk about.
00:11Yes, yes.
00:11The Britney biopic.
00:12What can you tell us about that?
00:13Well, that's very-
00:14How involved is she?
00:15Michael.
00:16Have you started filming that yet?
00:18Yes, we've been filming about two months and a half.
00:20Yeah.
00:22Got about four months to go.
00:23Currently scheduled for a late 2025 release,
00:26the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic is certain to be one of the most highly anticipated movies
00:31of the year.
00:32The film is set to explore the King of Pop's life and is directed by Antoine Fuqua.
00:38Jafar Jackson, son of Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson,
00:41will be portraying the adult version of the star.
00:50Rounding out the cast, Coleman Domingo and Nia Long are playing Jackson's parents,
00:54along with Miles Teller as his former manager, John Branca.
00:58At this time, there's no word yet as to whether the film will depict
01:01Jackson's controversial legal matters.
01:03It's not what the tabloids have printed.
01:05It's not all this crazy outlandish-
01:07No, it's not at all.
01:08I mean, the terms of the agreement are very confidential.
01:10Deliver Me From Nowhere.
01:12Set to release in 2025, this biopic is bringing Bruce Springsteen to the big screen.
01:18Based on Warren Zane's book of the same name,
01:20the film follows the born-in-the-USA singer's journey
01:23crafting his groundbreaking album, Nebraska.
01:26Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear,
01:29is stepping out of the kitchen and into the recording studio to portray him.
01:47On set, photos of White have made the rounds online,
01:55and it's looking like the Emmy winner is a good match for the boss.
01:58Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser,
02:00Mark Maron, and Gabby Hoffman are also set to appear in the film.
02:09Janis Joplin.
02:10Get it while you can.
02:18At one time, Amy Adams was set to play Janis Joplin in a new biopic.
02:22However, years later, it seems the project has shifted gears
02:26with a new actress stepping into the role.
02:28Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley is on the docket to play the legendary rocker,
02:32who passed away at only 27 years old.
02:47Linda Perry, a collaborator on the project,
02:50stated that the film will follow the final days of Joplin's life.
02:53Still in the early stages of development,
02:56neither a release date nor a shooting schedule have been revealed yet.
03:00Seven years in the making for us,
03:02and now we finally got to share it with the world.
03:05And the whole experience has been incredible from day one to now,
03:09and we have a long way to go.
03:11Untitled Fred Astaire biopic.
03:18Brushing off my tails.
03:21When Tom Holland made his unforgettable appearance on Lip Sync Battle,
03:25it became very clear that the actor has a knack for dancing.
03:28In fact, the Spider-Man star studied dance at a young age
03:32and even starred as the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical.
03:35It took me about two, two and a half years to actually get onto the stage.
03:41Most ballet classes in electricity, it's very strict.
03:46But in acro, we can just like do what we want, muck around a bit.
03:50Given his experience and training,
03:53it's no surprise he would be a natural choice
03:55to portray one of the greatest dancers of all time, Fred Astaire.
03:59In 2023, Holland said the project was in, quote, development.
04:04Here's hoping it's shuffled into production
04:05because we would love to see Holland bring his moves to the big screen.
04:13Untitled Linda Ronstadt biopic.
04:17Hi.
04:232024 was a big year for Selena Gomez.
04:26Not only did she become engaged to her boyfriend, Benny Blanco,
04:30she also received two Golden Globe nominations
04:32for her roles in Emilia Perez and Only Murders in the Building.
04:36Girl, you are just in your acting bag right now.
04:38How good does that feel?
04:40Actually, unbelievable.
04:41This is where my heart deeply, deeply lies.
04:45So I'm so happy.
04:46In addition to those milestones,
04:482024 also gifted Gomez her next big project, a Linda Ronstadt biopic.
04:53Directed by David O. Russell,
04:55Gomez is set to star as the Blue Bayou singer.
04:58Not much else has been revealed about the project at this point,
05:01but it's looking like 2025 will be another stellar year for Gomez.
05:06I think that this was a wonderful stepping stone
05:10into hopefully showing people how much I care
05:13and I'm willing to go there as a performer.
05:17And it's so liberating.
05:19So I just hope there's more projects to come.
05:22I have a sneaking suspicion there absolutely will be.
05:24Untitled Beatles biopic.
05:26Aren't we going in then?
05:27No, let's not.
05:29Oh, come on, lads.
05:29Don't be windy.
05:30Where's that famous pluck?
05:32I haven't got any of you, George.
05:33Did have.
05:34I have had.
05:35I will have.
05:35We don't.
05:36Director Sam Mendes is gearing up to bring
05:38one of the biggest bands of all time to the silver screen.
05:42In a four-part biopic film series,
05:44Mendes will tell the story of the Beatles,
05:47with each film focusing on a specific member of the quartet.
05:50But who will play the Fab Four?
05:52You played guitar, right?
05:53Uh-huh.
05:54Still do.
05:56Still do.
05:57You should come see us.
05:58Rumors and unofficial statements have been swirling around online.
06:02Some outlets are reporting that Paul Meskel may play Paul McCartney,
06:06Harris Dickinson as John Lennon,
06:07and Barry Kilgan as Ringo Starr.
06:10It's also been speculated that both Joseph Quinn and Charlie Rowe
06:13are contenders to play George Harrison.
06:15No matter who is in the final cast,
06:17cannot wait to see this project come together.
06:20Come together
06:23Right now
06:26Over me
06:27The Smashing Machine
06:28The second the bell rings,
06:31you can just look at some people and you can just tell
06:35they're scared to death.
06:36Hot off 2023's sports biopic The Iron Claw,
06:39A24 is ready to get back into the ring with their upcoming project,
06:43The Smashing Machine.
06:44Based on the life of the iconic mixed martial arts fighter Mark Kerr,
06:48the film is directed and written by Uncut Gems co-director Benny Safdie.
07:09The film will reunite Disney's Jungle Cruise co-stars Dwayne The Rock Johnson as Kerr,
07:14and Emily Blunt as his ex-wife Dawn Staples.
07:17Production ended in the summer of 2024,
07:19and the picture is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
07:27Untitled Christy Martin Biopic
07:29Regarded as one of the most successful female athletes in the history of boxing,
07:34Christy Martin's life story is about to become a major motion picture.
07:38How can this be? I'm from a town of 500 people in southern West Virginia,
07:42and here I am in the middle of this huge fight on a pay-per-view show.
07:46Euphoria Sidney Sweeney will portray Martin in the film,
07:49which will follow her rise to fame as a boxer in the 90s.
07:53The film is also expected to depict the attempted murder of Martin by her former husband
07:58in a brutal attack which he later served time for.
08:01Thank God a motorist stopped by and picked me up and took me to the emergency room.
08:06The doctors there, after seeing my leg,
08:09they wondered how I walked, how I was able to run out of the house.
08:15Was I ever going to walk again?
08:17Sweeney posted photos in costume as the boxer on her Instagram.
08:20Sporting muscles and brown hair,
08:22Sweeney bears a striking resemblance to the coal miner's daughter,
08:26and we're sure she's got the fighting skills to match.
08:28There was a lot of hard punches, proud to say his name.
08:32She gave everybody the money's worth.
08:36So, it is now for you to reclaim our lost honor.
08:42Yes, I understand.
08:45There's a man here. You will go to him.
08:48In 2022, it was revealed that Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee
08:52was set to direct his son, Mason Lee, in a new Bruce Lee biopic.
08:56Bruce, an actor, director, and martial artist,
08:59took Hollywood by storm in the 1960s and early 70s
09:03thanks to his roles in films like Enter the Dragon and shows like The Green Hornet.
09:07How would you stop us?
09:15Kung fu? Isn't that the traditional way?
09:18Bruce's wife and daughter were the ones who reached out to Ang,
09:21hoping he would take on the project.
09:24In 2024, the Brokeback Mountain director stated
09:27that he hopes to make the movie, quote, soon.
09:29What's your style?
09:31My style?
09:34You can call it the art of fighting without fighting.
09:37The art of fighting without fighting?
09:40Show me some of it. Later.
09:43Tony.
09:44Did you save room for dessert?
09:46Yeah, what's that?
09:48That's our signature dessert, Cherry's Jubilee.
09:51Sounds great.
09:53Bring the young vandal here, Cherry's Jubilee.
09:55Breakout star of The Holdovers, Dominic Sessa,
09:58is preparing to take on a new challenge
10:00by potentially playing the late star chef, Anthony Bourdain.
10:03In the summer of 2024,
10:05outlets broke the news that A24 was in talks to produce the biopic,
10:09scouting BlackBerry director Matt Johnson to helm it.
10:12There's not much news on the street about the project yet,
10:15but fingers crossed it all goes ahead.
10:17I had a high enough opinion of myself that I thought,
10:21um, it's worth going forward.
10:25Otis and Zelma.
10:27In late 2024, it was announced the legendary singer-songwriter
10:31Otis Redding would be immortalized on the big screen.
10:39The voice behind iconic songs like Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
10:42will be portrayed by Star Wars alum, John Boyega.
10:45The film, currently titled Otis and Zelma,
10:48will not only follow Redding,
10:49but also his marriage to Zelma Redding,
10:52who will be played by Till's Danielle Deadweiler.
10:55Otis's tragic and untimely death in a plane crash at just 26 years old
10:59left a major impact on the world of music.
11:01With a love story at its center,
11:03the film is sure to pack an emotional punch.
11:18Untitled Dionne Warwick biopic.
11:28The voice behind some of the greatest love songs of all time,
11:32Dionne Warwick's story is ready for the silver screen.
11:35At this time, not much is known about the project,
11:39other than that Warwick personally selected singer-actress
11:42Teyana Taylor to play her.
11:43What the world needs right now might be love, sweet love,
11:48but what I think it really needs is more of Miss Dionne Warwick, yeah!
11:53Both artists have publicly shared their admiration for each other,
11:57so we can be sure that this project will be made with lots of love and care.
12:01She's had a wonderful career, you know,
12:03and I think right now it's about making her feel as safe as possible
12:06to be able to tell her story,
12:09because a lot of these stories get misconstrued
12:11or extremely dramatized to an extent,
12:15and that's not like really where we want to go.
12:18Untitled Britney Spears biopic.
12:26What could be more exciting than a biopic about the one and only Britney Spears?
12:31The Princess of Pop's discography and life story would make for an epic film,
12:35but it may or may not become a reality.
12:38In 2024, media outlets reported that the rights for Spears's biography
12:42The Woman and Me were bought by Universal,
12:44with Wicked director Jon M. Chu possibly set to direct.
12:48I haven't really started anything fully yet.
12:50We are, um, so, so, so, but she will be very involved in this.
12:55So I have ideas and things of an approach and things,
12:57but we, uh, it's very, very early.
12:59As excitement built, the singer took to her social media
13:02to state that the project was happening,
13:04but the film won't be a biopic.
13:06Despite conflicting reports,
13:08a potential collab between Chu and Spears
13:11sounds like a match made in cinematic heaven.
13:13Have we talked to Britney?
13:14Yes, I'm very, I'm very excited about it.
13:16I think there's, um, huge potential about telling a great story,
13:20one that she deserves, but I'll say it, I'll leave it at that.
13:2372.
13:24This is the best game I've ever had.
13:26Come on, Ralph, hear what you say.
13:28This is good.
13:28A biopic about comedy legend and family feud host Steve Harvey
13:32is in the works under the title 72.
13:35The name is inspired by the timeframe in which the story will take place,
13:39three days before his life-changing stand-up performance
13:42at the Apollo Theater in the early 90s.
13:44And that was my turn back moment.
13:46See, in your life, everybody has a turn back moment.
13:51You have a moment where you could go forward or you can give up.
13:55But the thing you have to keep in mind before you give up
13:59is that if you give up, the guarantee is it will never happen.
14:05No cast, writers, or director are currently attached to the project,
14:09but survey says this is definitely going to be a fun one to watch out for.
14:1373.
14:14Untitled Martin Luther King Jr. biopic.
14:16This nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creeds.
14:23We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.
14:29Depicted on screen in films like Selma and Rustin,
14:32Dr. King is a seminal figure with a story that continues to inspire and uplift.
14:37In 2023, it was reported that comedian Chris Rock
14:41was preparing to direct a biopic about the late civil rights leader
14:44along with Steven Spielberg as the executive producer.
14:47Based on Jonathan Ige's biography, King, A Life,
14:50no other details about the project have been revealed.
14:53Because I had this opportunity to interview people who knew King well,
14:56because there were thousands of pages of new FBI documents,
14:58because we're living in a world in which everything he warned about has come true,
15:04we desperately needed a new biography.
15:05Untitled Queen Latifah biopic.
15:07I bring wrath to those who disrespect me like a dame.
15:10That's why I'm talking.
15:11One day I was walking down the block.
15:13I had my cutoff shorts on, right?
15:15Born Dana Elaine Owens, the artist better known as Queen Latifah
15:19has built a career that has covered everything from music to film to makeup.
15:23The Academy Award nominee revealed in 2024 that a film based on her life is in the works.
15:29Teaming up with Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment,
15:32Latifah's film is set to be one of the many movies
15:35about hip-hop icons that the company's plan on producing.
15:38Will Smith is also joining the team as a producer,
15:41with additional details still yet to be disclosed.
15:43Wait, you saying you want a Neve?
15:45Yo.
15:46Like to be on a Neve board was like a holy grail,
15:49to have 48 tracks?
15:50Absolutely.
15:51Unheard of.
15:52Unheard of.
15:52I don't know those budgets.
15:53Untitled Richard Simmons biopic.
15:56Everyone's trying crazy diets or most people want to do without the exercise,
15:59but you know it's 10% eating and it's 10% exercise and it's 80% motivation
16:05and that's why God made me!
16:08In 2024, comedian Pauly Shore starred in a short film The Court Jester.
16:13In the film, which played at Sundance,
16:16Shore portrays the late fitness coach and TV personality Richard Simmons.
16:20What's my first rule?
16:22Like yourself, okay?
16:24Like yourself.
16:25Your weight doesn't matter.
16:27If you like yourself, you're gonna be fine.
16:30After its premiere,
16:31Shore sought to create a feature-length biopic about Simmons.
16:34However, before Simmons passed,
16:36he publicly stated that he did not approve of the project,
16:39but was in talks with studios to do another biopic on his terms.
16:44After his death,
16:45Simmons' family also spoke out against it.
16:47Only time will tell if the project gets made.
16:55We're gonna turn around now!
16:56Untitled Elon Musk biopic
16:58Anybody in this room on the planet who doesn't have an opinion about Elon Musk
17:02and you who may know him better than anybody in the world now
17:05managed to write 600 pages
17:07and I actually don't know exactly what you think of him.
17:10I learned all kinds of things about him,
17:13but you've written a Rorschach test.
17:15Author Walter Isaacson is no stranger
17:17to having his biographies adapted for the big screen.
17:20In 2015, his book Steve Jobs was adapted by Aaron Sorkin
17:24and turned into a film under the same name,
17:26directed by Danny Boyle.
17:28Next up, his bio about controversial tech billionaire Elon Musk
17:32is slated to be turned into a film by A24.
17:35Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky is set to helm the project.
17:38I couldn't sit here and answer what it means,
17:40but I know people are always gonna come back to stories.
17:45Untitled James Baldwin biopic
17:48I write the essays, I write the books.
17:50And what you make of them is...
17:52What if you don't make of those things?
17:55It's not, you know, it's not to me.
17:56The late civil rights icons works,
17:58like If Beale Street Could Talk,
18:00have already been adapted into films.
18:02But now it's time for his own story to shine.
18:05His life will be the basis of a screenplay
18:07co-written by Poe star Billy Porter,
18:10who will also play the prolific writer and activist.
18:12He's one of the first people who I saw who looked like me.
18:17You know, who represented me in the fullness.
18:20You know, black and queer and present and,
18:24you know, his writing's unapologetic.
18:26The book, James Baldwin, A Biography,
18:28written by Baldwin's friend David Leeming,
18:30will serve as inspiration for the film.
18:33Untitled Candy Darling biopic
18:36Director Zachary Drucker is gearing up
18:37to bring Candy Darling's life to the big screen.
18:40I don't like a set look, you know.
18:44I don't like anything that looks too set.
18:45I like things little and things that move.
18:49I think things that move are beautiful.
18:50The trans icon and noted Andy Warhol superstar
18:54appeared in Warhol's films Flesh and Women in Revolt,
18:57and later made a splash in New York's theater scene.
19:00The film was originally announced in 2019.
19:04Hari Neff was cast as Darling,
19:06and John Cameron Mitchell signed on to produce in 2024.
19:09I'd like to be the daddy to kind of create the place that it happens.
19:14Be like the architect?
19:15Yeah, but I hate to micromanage.
19:16I'm like, what do you, you know, what do you got?
19:18What do you got to bring to the party?
19:20Untitled Nat King Cole biopic
19:29Coleman Domingo has proven himself
19:31to be one of the strongest actors around,
19:34and he's about to prove that point yet again with his newest project.
19:38Domingo is gearing up to play singer Nat King Cole in a film about his life.
19:42Not only that, but it's also been reported
19:44that the Sing Sing actor has co-written the screenplay and is set to direct.
19:48Sounds like for Domingo, the project will be an unforgettable experience.
19:53Come to expect some of Nat King Cole's rich catalog of music.
19:58Come to expect that, but also come to expect
20:02that you'll never hear the songs the same way again.
20:05Blue Moon
20:13Jammed with an all-star cast including Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, and Andrew Scott,
20:18Blue Moon is set to dazzle audiences in 2025.
20:22From the mind of Richard Linklater,
20:24the film follows the last days of lyricist Lorenz Hart of the famous duo Rogers and Hart.
20:28I think he was a tremendously skilled man.
20:32He knew more about rhyming than almost anybody I've ever known.
20:35And he loved to do it.
20:36This is a very good, good form of showing off
20:40because he could rhyme things that nobody else would dare touch.
20:43According to reports, a big part of the film will take place
20:46on the opening night of the musical Oklahoma,
20:49a project that Richard Rogers wrote with Oscar Hammerstein.
20:52A behind-the-scenes theatrical drama,
20:54it looks like musical theater fans will be lining up for this one.

21:22Based on the life of entrepreneur Whitney Wolf Hurd,
21:25Swiped is set to join the ranks of other popular tech biopics like The Social Network.
21:36In the upcoming 2025 film, Lily James plays Hurd,
21:44the founder and previous CEO of the increasingly popular dating app Bumble.
21:49She's joined by co-star Dan Stevens in the Rachel Lee Goldenberg flick,
21:53which will stream on Hulu.
21:55Unfortunately, not much else is known about the project at this point,
21:59but we're definitely planning to swipe right on it.
