Pompey writer Jordan Cross brings the latest transfer news ahead of tonight's 11pm deadline for business.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Just a bit of a transfer deadline day update for you all as we enter the final day of activity ahead of tonight's 11pm deadline.
00:13Apologies, I couldn't find a yellow tie this morning, but I found a yellow chair just to be in keeping with the Sky Sports News hoopla.
00:21But in terms of Pompey this morning, the final day, it really hinges at the moment on the attacking resources.
00:28Pompey keen to bring in a final cog in terms of the attacking will.
00:33And that looks likely to be Cade Gordon, the Liverpool attacker.
00:38The news reporting last Wednesday, I believe, of Pompey's interest, along with Adil Alshish, the Sunderland man who's arrived on Friday to make it the sixth signing of the window.
00:54Cade Gordon, 20-year-old lad. He spent the first half of the season on loan at Norwich and has been recalled, made about 10 appearances, mainly off the bench.
01:05So a young final cog there with Adil Alshish. Probably the more eye-catching name, I must admit.
01:12More experience from the Frenchman there and more promise probably.
01:18But Cade Gordon, the name in the frame this morning. That would take it to number seven.
01:24Interestingly, about the Gordon deal, it would be a sixth loan signing for Pompey.
01:29Pompey only allowed five loan signings in the matchday squad.
01:32No limit on loan signings that you can bring in, but a limit of five to be named.
01:38So with Omani, Potts, Hayden, Robatkinson and Adil Alshish, that would be a sixth place.
01:44They wouldn't be able to name all of those players of a game unless one of those players was to be sent back.
01:50So that's one to keep an eye on today anyway, but that's certainly part of the dynamic of the deals that Pompey are doing there.
01:58So that's the big one in terms of incomings this morning.
02:02Outgoing-wise, yes, Pompey are looking to be active. That's the phrase that John Massino used ahead of the deadline date.
02:11Now that looks likely to centre on Reilly Towler. A stack of League One clubs interested in Reilly.
02:16He's expected to go out on loan today. Pompey now well-stocked, certainly, with sense backs.
02:23Really promising. A strong partnership between Robatkinson and Connor Shopnessy.
02:28Obviously, Hayden Matthews is coming as well. Regan Paul and the like coming back as well.
02:32So Pompey now looking okay in that department. So Reilly Towler, plenty of interest in the defender.
02:37He's expected to go out on loan.
02:40The other ones, the other two to focus on today would be Will Norris. Some talk of interest from Wickham.
02:45That would be one that we're chasing up today. Will Norris would be allowed to depart.
02:50Obviously, out of favour now with Nico Schmidt coming in and Jordan Arch in the number two.
02:54So, wouldn't be any surprise. But I know that he's fairly content at the moment.
03:00Will Norris would be one of the top earners at the club.
03:02So, not necessarily a straightforward deal to get him out.
03:05Him being happy to fight for his place at the moment.
03:0918 months to go on a decent contract by what was handed out at League One level.
03:14But there is talk of Wickham interest. And the other ones to look out for would be Owen Moxham.
03:19Not getting a great deal of football. Owen Moxham would want to play.
03:23Could be one to look out for as the day goes on.
03:27This is all within the constraints of the 25-man EFL squad limits in place in the Championship as well.
03:33So, Pompey are up to that with the Al-Sheikhs.
03:36And Cohen Bramall, the lad coming in on Friday, that would put them back up to the 25-man limit.
03:43That's with Paddy Lane and Jacob Farrell out for the season. They could be deregistered.
03:49So, that would put them back up to that limit.
03:51Any other players coming in, including Cade Gordon actually,
03:55then would have to be actioned by players going out.
03:57So, that's quite an important part of the dynamic on deadline day.
04:03Adil Al-Sheikh in the building. Now, there's a lot of hoo-ha about the GBE Home Office Work Permit issues around that one.
04:10Our understanding, as we've reported quite extensively,
04:16Pompey were always confident of getting that done, but not straightforward with the GBE situation.
04:22Pompey got four players. You can bring them in under relaxed requirements now to get the work permits.
04:28You've got four players that don't necessarily have to hit the criteria for international appearances and experience.
04:35So, they had four players in that boat in Jacob Farrell, Abdoulaye Kamara, Hayden Matthews and Nico Schmid.
04:43So, they couldn't bring another player in that. And Adil Al-Sheikh didn't hit the 15-point limit.
04:50What can happen now, and this is what allowed the deal for our understanding to take place,
04:55is after one transfer window, they can transition players out and free up a space.
05:00And Nico Schmid, I believe, would now hit the 15-point threshold to have a work permit outside of the four players that are in the relaxed positions for that.
05:11So, he could be transitioned out or Jacob Farrell, even, whose season is over.
05:15But I think Schmid would be okay. It's a very similar situation to what's happened at Norwich with Matej Juracek coming in there.
05:23They had a player that then hit the 15-point requirement, could be transitioned out and then replaced.
05:30Very complex. I'm not surprised that it's over a lot of people's heads, but basically, that's how they can get Adil Al-Sheikh in.
05:38So, very positive news on that one as well.
05:40I know John Massina is really upbeat about what he sees as a bit of a coup for Al-Sheikh, actually.
05:46Anyway, so that's the kind of broadly how it's looking at the moment.
05:51I wouldn't write off the prospect of deregistering the player if players wanted to sit tight, like a Will Norrish situation,
05:59if he didn't want to go anywhere, if that was to get the players.
06:02But I think Riley Taylor would be the one in the immediacy that would go out and free up that space.
06:08So, a stack of clubs in for Riley Taylor and a fan's favourite. No surprise about that.
06:13So, Cady Gordon, the one to look at at the moment. We'll be updating on that through the day.
06:19All the other bits and pieces. Lots going on, as you can imagine.
06:22We'll be keeping well across things at the news at Portsmouth.co.uk as well, ahead of the 11pm deadline.
06:30I've got the early stint as Chief Sports Writer. Neil Allen will be taking you home up until around 11pm.
06:37We'll be both across things throughout the day. So, stick with us.
06:41We'll keep you up to date with everything that's going at Portsmouth.co.uk, as I say.
06:45Enjoy Transfer Deadline Day.
