00:00President Donald Trump has signed a slew of executive orders in the two weeks since his
00:04inauguration that reflect proposals outlined in the far-right policy blueprint Project
00:092025. Project 2025 includes a 900-page report proposing a total overhaul of the executive
00:17branch, which was crafted by the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups in
00:222023 as a roadmap for the next conservative president, namely Trump, to follow. Here are
00:29a few updates on Trump's executive order filings and how they intersect with Project 2025.
00:36On Border Security and Defense Project 2025 is largely in line with Trump's broad moves
00:41to restrict immigration and tighten security on the southern border, with both the president
00:46and Project 2025 advocating increasing detention facilities for undocumented migrants, taking
00:53steps that would give local law enforcement more jurisdiction over identifying undocumented
00:58migrants, rescinding Biden-era immigration policies, restricting undocumented immigrants'
01:04abilities to receive public funds, and restricting parole programs for migrants, among other
01:10moves.
01:11On Energy, Trump declared a quote, national energy emergency, and broadly took action
01:17against efforts on renewable energy like the Biden administration's pro-electric vehicle
01:22policies and federal wind energy projects, saying the U.S. should instead increase energy
01:28production through oil and gas drilling. After Project 2025 similarly claimed the U.S. quote
01:35energy crisis is caused by extreme green policies, and said the next president quote must be
01:42committed to unleashing all of America's energy resources.
01:47Military Policies Trump reinstated members of the military who
01:51were discharged for not complying with its COVID-19 vaccine mandate as Project 2025 urged,
01:58and also signed an order ending DEI programs in the military after Project 2025 called
02:04for the military to quote eliminate Marxist indoctrination and divisive critical race
02:09theory programs, and abolish newly established diversity, equity, and inclusion offices and
02:14staff.
02:16Project 2025 proposed the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be moved to the
02:21Department of Interior and reformed, which Trump suggested he may do, saying he will
02:26sign an order to quote begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA,
02:32or maybe getting rid of them.
02:34And on Career Civil Servants Project 2025 strongly advocates for replacing
02:40career civil servants with political appointees dedicated to the president's agenda. And
02:46Trump has taken multiple steps towards that goal already, including re-implementing a
02:50Schedule F order that makes it easier to fire career officials, imposing a hiring freeze
02:56for career civil servants, both of which Project 2025 suggested, and offering buyouts to millions
03:02of government employees. For more on this story, check out Alison Durkee's article
