Leeds locals react to parking charges which are set to be introduced at Golden Acre, Roundhay and Middleton Parks, as well as Temple Newsam and Otley Chevin, on Monday 10th February.
Transcript
00:00I usually come every day in the park for a walk, and I sometimes bring my children on weekends.
00:06But the parking would restrict our visit to the park, so this is really not a welcoming decision.
00:13I think it's a real shame. I guess it's almost a tax on people coming to the park, and parks should be free.
00:21And I think really for the health and well-being of people, people should be actively encouraged to come to the park.
00:29I think if they spent their money wisely overall in the budget, they wouldn't need to take away from what could be a free day out for struggling families.
00:40Yeah, I agree. I think I'll be able to afford it, although it will add pressure, because we do come to the park regularly.
00:48But some families will just stay away, or they'll only have one hour, and then they'll have to run back to the car to avoid parking fines,
00:56which is always wrong for families who struggle perhaps with doing nappies, etc.
01:01If the council's got no money, they've got to get money from somewhere. Some people won't be able to afford it.
01:07I'm lucky, I just live around the corner, so it's a walk for me. I know people come from all over Leeds, but is £4 for all day too outrageous for people? I don't know.
01:16The charge is too much. It shouldn't be any charge, never mind too much. We come every day, and we are pensioners, so it's no good.
01:26I think it's quite sad that families might not be able to afford it, and you've got to look at the backdrop of the council's got no money, it's verging on bankruptcy, and it's clawing anything it can to try and make some money.
01:41People instead of paying here, they go to nearby streets and park there, and they'll have space to park their cars.
01:51A pound for two hours doesn't seem too bad. So I think if the money is needed, somebody's got to pay for it.
