Doncic: Lebron called me right away to welcome me to LA  Luka Doncic says on Feb. 4, 2025 he was as shocked as anyone by the blockbuster trade over the weekend that brought him to the Los Angeles Lakers but is excited to join forces with LeBron James in a move that could shape the franchise for years to come. The 25-year-old Slovenian guard and perennial MVP contender admitted he figured he would spend his entire NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks, which made the news of his trade all the more surprising. Doncic, who was wildly popular in Dallas, will chase a title alongside the NBA's all-time top scorer in Lebron James, who he said was quick to reach out when the trade was announced. 00:00Well first of all, I remember the exact moment that that happened. It always

00:06stayed, you know, in my mind. It was an amazing moment. Just for Kobe to know my

00:11name was amazing for me and, you know, I just wish Kobe and JJ were here to see

00:16this moment and, you know, I'm excited about this new journey and

00:21happy to be here.

00:25I'm just excited, you know, to be here to start this new journey journey and

00:35obviously at some point I knew this was gonna happen but I would say I always

00:41take the high road, you know. I had my amazing moments in Dallas with all my

00:47teammates, coaches and the most importantly the fans, you know. They always

00:51supported me and it was it was an amazing journey.

01:01I mean everybody was surprised so you can imagine how surprised I was. I was

01:08almost asleep so when I got a call I had to check it was it was April 1st. I

01:13didn't really believe it at first and it was it was a big shock. It was hard

01:18moments for me. It was it was home so it was really hard moments for me

01:23especially the first day. But as I said, you know, I get to play in the greatest

01:27club in the world and I'm excited for this new journey.

01:37Yeah, he called me right away. He was in New York so he called me right away and we didn't talk

01:44much because, you know, he said I understand what you're feeling but that

01:49was really nice of him just to call me right away and welcome me to LA.

01:59Yeah, I would say, like you said, I thought I was gonna spend my whole career there because I

02:05think loyalty is a big word for me and I was trying to stay by that. But this for

02:10me is a fresh start. I get to play in LA. The fans are amazing and I get the I got

02:16the ocean here so it's a really big thing for me. But really I'm really

02:21excited to be here. I'm getting to play for the Lakers and everybody can say

02:26that and many many legends pass here many many championships so that's my goal.
