00:00Sandra Bullock is warning fans about social media scams.
00:04On February 3rd, the Blindside star spoke out in a statement
00:07to People Magazine as she appeared to reveal
00:09that online scammers are impersonating her.
00:12My family's safety, as well as the innocent people
00:14being taken advantage of, is my deep concern,
00:17and there will be a time when I will comment more,
00:19but for now, our focus is helping law enforcement
00:21handle this matter.
00:22Please be aware that I do not participate
00:24in any form of social media.
00:26Any accounts pretending to be me
00:27or anyone associated with me are fake accounts
00:29and have been created for financial gain
00:31or to exploit people around me, she said.
00:34The Oscar winner isn't the only one
00:36who is warning about these types of scams.
00:38Her sister, Jazina Bullock Prado,
00:40shared a similar message a day
00:41before Sandra released her statement.
00:43In a post on Instagram, Jazina shared a screenshot
00:46of what she called a few Facebook imposter accounts
00:48using her name and wrote in part for her caption,
00:51another day, the same lack of safety and response
00:54from at Metta at Metta for Business at Zuck.
00:56I'm just posting a few Facebook imposter accounts,
00:59all of which I've reported both on this app
01:01and to a live human at Metta.
01:03Surprise, they're all still up.
01:05I spend multiple times a day reporting fakes,
01:07dealing with weird and scary emails to my business and home
01:09from men who believe that,
01:11through one of these many fake me's,
01:13they have a relationship with my sister
01:14through private messages and off-app sites
01:17and have been giving sometimes thousands of dollars
01:19to an incredibly famous and successful grown-ass woman.
01:22When I report, I also report to a security service
01:25that gives the account addresses directly to a Metta employee.
01:28These accounts are run by crime rings.
01:30They also run fake groups
01:31where a fake me posts official statements, not me.
01:34This is my only account, and y'all know
01:36it's about baking, cooking, animals, and gardening.
01:38I'm a grown-ass, middle-aged woman with a life,
01:40and I don't troll around at 54 DMing people.
01:43These crime rings and scams are well-known
01:45by the company and the world,
01:46but the fact that I'm put in danger,
01:48as is my livelihood, doesn't mean a damn thing.
01:51Sandra's younger sister also referenced a recent article
01:54about a French woman who was reportedly scammed
01:56into believing she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt
01:58and ended up getting swindled out of $800,000,
02:01even divorcing her husband during the period.
02:03Jazina concluded her post by asking her followers
02:06to report or block any fake accounts
02:08they may see or be contacted by, adding,
02:11the only reason I stay on Facebook
02:13is to monitor this for my own knowledge
02:15so I'm aware of the danger coming at me.
02:17And yes, because of these scams,
02:18I've had to involve local law enforcement
02:20and they've been outstanding.
02:21Strangely, Insta handles these things
02:23and even informs me when someone creates an account
02:25that may be an imposter.
02:26But Facebook, same company with same tech,
02:29can't be bothered.
02:31In a statement to Access Hollywood,
02:32a Meta spokesperson said,
02:34people who impersonate others on Facebook and Instagram
02:36violate our policies and we remove this content
02:39when it's found, like we are doing in this case.
02:41We continue to invest in technology
02:43to improve our detection and enforcement against scams
02:45and work with law enforcement to prosecute scammers.
02:49Access Hollywood has also reached out
02:51to Sandra Bullock for comment,
02:52but did not immediately hear back.
