Landlords will have to meet decent energy efficiency standards in homes they rent out by 2030, under plans put out for consultation by the Government. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: "So many renters today are living in substandard accommodation and we have a basic view that if you pay your rent you have a right to live in warm, properly insulated accommodation." 00:18They'll have five years, over the coming five years, to put in place these changes
00:23but we think this is absolutely the right thing to do to protect the living standards of working people in our country.
00:29We're also going to be introducing these standards in the social rented sector because we think across the board
00:35renters deserve properly insulated, warm accommodation
00:39and we'll be making announcements in the coming months about how these same standards will apply to the social rented sector.
