00:00In flood-stricken areas, some are used to preparing a go-bag with emergency items.
00:16But what if they can also wear it and save lives in flood?
00:21Some senior high students developed something like that.
00:24So come on, let's change the game!
00:31A bag with a life jacket,
00:33waterproof plastic storage that can withstand floods,
00:38and other emergency equipment
00:41like a hard hat, fire blanket, thermal blanket, pitot, and survival mirror.
00:51Here's your upgraded go-bag for the flood season, the Mabuhay Bag.
00:57Developed by Grade 12 students from Manila Science High School.
01:02So here it is, we're wearing the Mabuhay Bag,
01:05the life jacket is attached,
01:07the harness is secured at the bottom so that it won't come off.
01:13And here's the bag at the back.
01:15What can we improve in the go-bag aside from what we can put in there?
01:20Floating capacity because the Philippines is a flood-stricken area,
01:24and storage capacity for the necessary survival materials.
01:27Let's give people products that they can really use in times of emergencies.
01:34July 2024, the developers started the project.
01:38It's now a level-up life-saving innovation for evacuees.
01:43We redesigned it.
01:44We had preliminary testing because that's what the engineer suggested when we consulted.
01:52The steps that we're currently doing is to patent the design of the bag itself.
02:00The Mabuhay Bag was recognized by the second-placers at the Regional Science and Technology Fair last year.
02:08This Mabuhay Bag can float in water or sea for up to 30 to 90 minutes.
02:15And what you can put in here,
02:17the bag itself can handle 3 to 4 kilograms of weight.
02:21You can put essential items like food, documents that you don't want to get wet,
02:28or clothes that you might need.
02:31Check that it will greatly help evacuees until the actual rescue arrives.
02:43A multifunctional bag made by our senior high school students
02:47that could save a lot of lives, especially in times of emergencies.
