00:00for continually raising them in this house.
00:02Lee Barron.
00:03Thank you Madam Deputy Speaker.
00:06In 2017 the police station in Corby was closed down.
00:10It was replaced by a policing hub on the second floor of a public building.
00:14That hub is now only open for two days per week
00:17and those on bail are asked to take selfies to demonstrate that they're meeting their bail conditions.
00:23Frankly, that's not good enough for the people of Corby.
00:26In light of that, public perception of local policing has been shattered
00:30and the view that local police are now somewhat remote.
00:33Would the Leader of the House support my campaign
00:36to bring back a police station and a dedicated response unit in Corby
00:40to return to true localised policing?
00:43Well look, there were a phenomenal number of police stations closed under the previous Conservative government,
00:51we've got to be honest about that,
00:52and community policing was left on its knees.
00:56We are determined to fix that.
00:57That's why we are bringing in more neighbourhood police officers, more PCSOs
01:02so that people can feel reassured with police out on the beat.
01:06And he may want to raise some of these issues
01:09in the forthcoming Crime and Policing Bill readings when we get them.
01:13It would be really helpful.
