00:00Live from Radio Row, SportsGrid's coverage of Super Bowl 59 continues. Joe Lisi with LSU Point Guard.
00:10Yes, sir.
00:11Trace Young joins us. Trace, how are you today?
00:13I'm doing great. Thanks for having me.
00:15Oh, this is what it's all about, right? New Orleans, Super Bowl. Give me your thoughts about the city. I know you play in Baton Rouge, but this is amazing.
00:22Oh, yes, sir. No, this place is unlike anywhere I've ever seen before. The culture down here and just, I don't know, the pace of life is fast down here.
00:29The food's good, too, so it's a great place.
00:30Now, it's a great matchup. Kansas City looking to win their third straight Super Bowl, going up against one of the hottest teams in terms of the NFL that have won 15 of the last 16 games in the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:41Do you have a pick or prediction of this game on Sunday?
00:45That's a great question. I'm going Eagles.
00:48Are you?
00:49I'm going Eagles by 20.
00:50Oh, wow. You don't like Mahomes, then. Is that what it is?
00:53I'm not going to say that, but I just got a gut feeling, you know? I got to roll with the gut.
00:57We'll see how it plays out. Now, we'll talk about LSU because I'm a big LSU guy. I love the Tigers.
01:03I bleed purple and gold, and we saw Jaden Daniels win the Heisman a couple of years ago.
01:08Just the dominance, obviously, Joe Burrow and that dynamic 2019 team.
01:13How did you get to LSU in terms of the recruitment process and, more importantly, you know, loving Baton Rouge?
01:20Yes, sir. No, absolutely. I mean, I transferred here, so I was at Colorado State for a few years playing basketball,
01:25and I really just feel like it was kind of a God thing, you know?
01:28I was there. I loved it. Felt super supported by the community and coaches,
01:32and I just felt like God was calling me to be somewhere else and keep moving,
01:35and so I took a leap of faith and entered the portal and got in touch with Coach McMahon
01:39and loved the coaches, loved the area, so I just felt like it was meant to be.
01:43Talk to me a little bit about the conference, right?
01:45Because we know about the dominance of SEC football, right?
01:48But I feel like SEC basketball, obviously, Alabama, that made it, you know, not just to the Elite Eight,
01:54but, you know, Final Four and just the dominance of the conference as a whole from top to bottom,
02:00especially with conference realignment.
02:02Man, the SEC is insane this year in basketball. I mean, you look at the top 25 teams,
02:06I mean, pretty much most of the SEC is in it except for, like, probably three of the schools,
02:10so it's competitive this year, but it's fun. It's great atmospheres everywhere we go,
02:14so it's a great experience.
02:16Now, we know that LSU, in terms of the NIL, has a collective agreement.
02:20I know you're heavily involved in that. A documentary came out.
02:24Talk to me about that and how it relates to LSU and just your personal experience.
02:30Yeah, I mean, NIL has definitely kind of taken over college sports, and it's a big deal.
02:34You know, I think it was something that was long overdue, and so I'm definitely blessed
02:38to be playing college basketball when it's now legal, but, yeah, there's a lot that goes into it.
02:44You know, I think we're kind of cavaliers in this and paving the way, so trying to still figure everything out,
02:50but it's definitely been a great experience.
02:52In terms of maybe just moving on from that, I always ask athletes this,
02:56playing in high school to college, what is the biggest thing that you had to adjust to
03:01or maybe change or maybe learn looking back at your career?
03:05Yeah, I think just the speed of the game is one thing that I notice from the college level,
03:10especially the high major, Power 5 school, you know, it's just the game goes so fast,
03:14and you don't have any time to look back at a play previously,
03:17and it's obviously just everyone's bigger, stronger, faster, so, yeah.
03:21And when you look at the team now, you talked to me, you told me that you played last night, right?
03:26In terms of the back-to-back of the logistics now with, obviously, Texas and Oklahoma in the conference,
03:32does that factor in any way as well?
03:35Yeah, I mean, we just, you know, we're on the road all the time playing a lot of games,
03:38so I think definitely you just kind of get used to it.
03:40You know, we got back at like 3 a.m. last night and came straight over here to New Orleans,
03:44so I think you just got to kind of, you know, understand that things are going to move quickly,
03:49and you just got to stay with it.
03:51The experience in terms of campus, right?
03:54We know about Death Valley in terms of the football game, right?
03:57And the Coliseum and the basketball program gets, I mean, every night you guys are packed to the gills,
04:03so how has that been?
04:05I mean, watching a game in terms of the football perspective and then the crowd
04:09and just the fan base as a whole for the Tigers?
04:12It's amazing.
04:13I mean, that's one thing that I just think is irreplaceable, and LSU is just unlike any place ever.
04:18It's really just the fans are all in, they're locked in, and it's just the energy and the buzz just in the whole city.
04:24You know, when it's a game day, football game day, basketball game day, you can just feel it in the whole city,
04:28so it's amazing, and the support from the fans is great.
04:30It was a pleasure to meet you.
04:32It's Grace Young, LSU Tiger guard.
04:35Doesn't get better than this.
04:36Go Tigers!
