Newry City assistant manager Raymond Byrne filled in for media duties on Friday night, and whilst he admitted that the team’s 1-0 loss to Newington was a poor result, he says that 'everybody is still up for the challenge' of avoiding relegation with 11 league games to go.

00:00So obviously a disappointing night tonight, I just want to get your thoughts on the game.
00:04Yeah, disappointing for everybody. We trained well last two weeks and prepared really well
00:10for the game and the energy before the game was really good, but we're on the pitch and
00:15it was flat, so everybody's really disappointed, but we have to move on very quickly.
00:21It was probably the lack of chances in terms of forcing the New England goalkeeper to have
00:25to make saves, was that the biggest disappointment on the night?
00:28Well it was, we had one big chance the first half and Alex had a second chance, could have
00:34done a little bit better, didn't hit the target, but every week we are having chances, we're
00:40just not taking them and when you don't take the chances and there's a bit of a soccer
00:44punch on the other end of the pitch, it's killing us. So the second half we had another
00:49chance, young Casey who came on and done really well, young fella on loan, but we just
00:57need to be a wee bit more clinical in front of goal on both ends of the pitch.
01:03And it felt, you can make an argument your goalkeeper Lorcan Danley was the man of the
01:06match, he made some super saves, but whilst that's a positive, is it a worry the fact
01:10that New England did create so many chances?
01:12Well, we've replaced probably about half a dozen of senior squad members with about
01:19five or six of young lads on loan that have signed late teenage years, so Lorcan's one
01:27of them and he's done super, he's getting plenty of first team football down here, plenty
01:32of experience, so we've replaced a lot of senior lads with a lot of young lads, so it's
01:38still working with them and getting them plenty of experience and working hard with
01:43them week in, week out.
01:45Look, obviously a disappointing result tonight because there's still 11 games left in the
01:48league, what's the message to the players going forward after this result?
01:52Well, the message is we'll be back in Tuesday night, we have to regroup, we'll have a chat
01:57and we look to kick on again. As you say, there's still 11 games to go, 33 points in
02:02play, so there's so much to play for in this league still, it's been disappointing so far,
02:07but it's not how you start the league, it's how you finish the league, so as you say,
02:12we've still 33 points to play for, everybody's still up for this challenge here.
