00:00A landslide north of Townsville yesterday has really challenged efforts to restore power
00:08to more than 1,600 customers that remain disconnected as of this morning.
00:15Ergon Energy, which supplies power to North Queensland, says it'll be at least until this
00:21evening before all of those customers are reconnected again.
00:26Some communities such as Palooma, where that landslide occurred, has been without power
00:32for more than a week now and without power but also disconnected with roads out all over
00:40North Queensland.
00:42So we're hearing that Ergon Energy might utilise the Army to chopper in generators to Palooma
00:48but also the communities surrounding Ingham.
00:52Some of those communities are without power still and of course we saw those images from
00:58Ingham a week ago and the volume of water that fell there, the amount of properties
01:05that were inundated, it's just massive and residents have barely been able to begin the
01:11clean up before this renewed rain has come into the region.
01:16So today with the weather, the focus will be on north-west Queensland where we were
01:22expecting widespread heavy rain to occur.
01:26Some of the areas that are included in a severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology
01:31include parts of the western Gulf country, northern goldfields and upper Flinders.
01:38Now on the north tropical coast from Tully all the way down to Eyre, that area that has
01:44just been hammered by rain for more than a week now, that's also included in the severe
01:50weather warning but here on the coast the showers are expected to be more isolated but
01:58they will still be heavy, there will still be a risk of life-threatening flash flooding
02:03and renewed river rises.
02:05Sadly some communities, Guru is one in the Burdekin Shire south of Townsville, they had
02:13that renewed major flooding over the weekend, there some properties have been inundated
02:18for a second time during this weather event which is still not over and the Bureau of
02:24Meteorology is saying that we may not see some reprieve from the rainfall until Wednesday.
