Justine Gill, 63, claims a reckless cyclist ran over her Chihuahua, Bonnie, while she was walking her three dogs in Swalecliffe, Kent, on February 6.

After hearing Bonnie scream in pain, a witness informed Mrs Gill that the cyclist, who fled the scene, had run over her dog’s back.

The incident left Bonnie in shock, requiring X-rays and oxygen, resulting in a £1,300 vet bill.

Despite not being insured, Mrs Gill paid the bill herself, expressing disappointment at the cyclist's lack of responsibility.

The incident occurred on a footpath designated as both a cyclepath and dog-walking area. Mrs Gill has chosen not to report the cyclist to the police.

00:00So she was run over by a cyclist on the Tankerton Promenade and the cycle went, the wheels went
00:09over her back and she was in a great deal of distress and screaming and within seconds
00:17the cyclist had gone off. He must have been aware she was hurt. Then I took her straight
00:22to the vet who took her in. She went into shock and they took her in and they had her
00:27in for the whole day and they did x-rays, they had to check for in case she'd ruptured
00:34organs or broken her spine and she had to be on oxygen and medication for shock. I collected
00:42her at 6.30 in the evening. The bill was over £1,300. I'm not insured which is my own choice
00:51and so I paid it. But I really felt that the person who did this took no responsibility
01:00and more importantly took no care. He didn't seem concerned that he'd hurt an animal. And
01:06that was what really upset that people would do this to each other and not express any
01:11form of concern whether they thought they were responsible or not. And it seems to happen
01:18more and more in that area and that worries me too for future walks.
