00:00The Covington Club. Founded in 1413, it's one of the UK's oldest secret societies.

00:07This thing started before Columbus sailed?

00:09The legacy is part of the appeal. Past members include prime ministers, top executives, even a handful of royals, and until a recent amendment, only men.

00:20How recent?

00:212013. It took a few lawsuits and dozens of petitions to make it happen.

00:27I signed one of them 20 years ago.

00:29But it looks like Emma was the first to make it through their initiation process.

00:33Did you ever come across these guys when you were a student here?

00:36Unfortunately. Their reputation was much the same back then. Exclusive, impenetrable, famous for their brand of black-tied abortory.

00:45They used to make prospective members burn £50 notes in front of beggars.

00:50Classy.

00:51And there were nastier rumours as well. Brutal initiations, physical abuse, couple of kids wound up in the hospital.

00:59But no charges were ever filed. The victims were always dismissed.
