Reporter Alastair Ulke is at the scene of a large police cordon in Sheffield city centre this morning
Transcript
00:00Good morning Sheffield, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star and I'm speaking to you
00:03from the top of Broad Street off of the Ring Road where I can only say what is
00:07probably the biggest police scene I've personally ever seen is currently
00:10underway. This is a police scene that was put in place at around 7 p.m. last
00:13night and here we are around 12 hours later and it's still absolutely teeming
00:17with police officers. I've seen all sorts of emergency services on this trip
00:21around the Ring Road I've taken today. The headlines I can say is that the
00:26area was closed off yesterday by police over reports of a man with weapons and
00:30we have no more information than that at this point but huge sections of the area
00:34are currently shut off. I can think of the tram network is closed, the bridges
00:38that go over the Ring Road, the main roundabout is shut off, Broad Street is
00:43closed, every road leading to Broad Street is closed and I'm told there is
00:46currently an evacuation centre at Ponds Forge Sports Centre for
00:52residents in the flat box behind me as far as I know. This is an extensive
00:56police scene that we're trying to get more information about and in the
00:59meantime it's going to cause huge amounts of disruption for Sheffield and
01:03people trying to make their way to work or even just get about on their day this
01:06morning. We'll bring you more information about this as it goes but huge sections
01:10of the city are currently closed off over a relatively unknown cause at this
01:14time. We'll bring you more information as it happens.
