00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Sunday, April 20. Here are the top stories
00:09at this hour.
00:10The Abu Dhabi Health Authority has reported 12 more cases of the MERS coronavirus, but
00:15the patients are in a stable condition. The authority said the patients are expected to
00:19overcome the infection in a couple of weeks without needing special treatment. The new
00:23cases are confined to hospitals and do not pose any danger to the public, it said.
00:29Work on transforming six Dubai metro stations into museums of art has begun, with the Roads
00:33and Transport Authority and Dubai Culture signing two new agreements. Among the six
00:38stations slated for the project are Burj Aman, Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa.
00:43Gunmen have killed a captain from the Egyptian Intelligence Services and a policeman on a
00:47desert road outside Cairo. Egypt's Interior Ministry said Joint Security Patrol was trying
00:52to stop a suspicious vehicle on the road to Suez when its occupants opened fire and fled.
00:58Divers began retrieving bodies today from inside the submerged South Korean ferry that
01:02capsized four days ago with hundreds of children on board. Families angered by the pace of
01:07rescue efforts meanwhile scuffled with police. Coast Guard officials said 16 bodies had been
01:13retrieved from the ship, with the confirmed death toll at 56 and 246 people still unaccounted
01:18for.
01:19Developers in Abu Dhabi may be gearing up for the kind of off-plan launches that Dubai
01:23has seen a lot of in the last 12 months. They have a good place to start as Cityscape Abu
01:28Dhabi 2014 opens this week in the capital. The Emirates' rental values have already shot
01:33up within a relatively short span.
01:36In sport, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab will both be looking to extend their winning
01:41start to IPL 7 when they meet this evening. The key men for the match at the Sharjah Cricket
01:46Stadium are likely to be Glenn Maxwell and Ajinkya Rahane.
01:51Football and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho mocked match officials after suffering his
01:55first home defeat in the Premier League in a 2-1 loss to Sunderland. The defeat left
01:59them two points behind leaders Liverpool.
02:02The White House has two words for those who want President Barack Obama to deport Justin
02:06Bieber. No comment. Nearly 275,000 people signed an internet petition calling the Canadian-born
02:13teen idol reckless and asking Obama to revoke his green card. But the White House said it
02:17wouldn't be commenting.
02:18And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 33 degrees Celsius dropping
02:22to 23 degrees at night.
02:24That's all for now. Thanks for watching. And as always, you can get the latest news
