00:10U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance warned against what he called excessive regulation of AI
00:16at the AI Action Summit in Paris.
00:22The European Union's lending arm announced hundreds of millions of euro in new financial
00:27support for Ukraine's recovery and development.
00:30Additionally, nearly 500 million euro will be channeled through major Ukrainian banks
00:35to support small and medium-sized enterprises, including those operating near the front lines.
00:43Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Investment Bank President Nadia Calvino
00:48held a joint conference in Kyiv following their discussions on support for Ukraine.
00:56Ukraine is obviously our top priority right now.
00:59Our commitment to Ukraine is unwavering, and the European Investment Bank is one of the
01:04main, if not the main, investment partner to the country right now.
01:08We have accelerated the deployment of these projects on the ground, and I'm happy that
01:14today we have been able to sign agreements to mobilize around one billion euro in investment.
01:22Zelensky also discussed meeting with members of the Trump administration before an upcoming
01:27conference on international security.
01:29This week, there will be some serious people from President Trump's team in Ukraine before
01:39the Munich conference.
01:41After the Munich conference, I will have a number of meetings with the Vice President
01:47and President Trump's team.
01:52Trump's national security adviser said that representatives will meet with European officials
01:57this week about how to end the war in Ukraine.
02:04U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance warned against what he called excessive regulation of AI
02:10at the AI Action Summit in Paris on Tuesday.
02:14Vance's address challenged Europe's regulatory approach to artificial intelligence and its
02:19moderation of content on big tech platforms, saying it would cripple the fast-growing industry.
02:26Now we invite your countries to work with us and to follow that model if it makes sense
02:31for your nations.
02:32However, the Trump administration is troubled by reports that some foreign governments are
02:38considering tightening the screws on U.S. tech companies with international footprints.
02:44Now America cannot and will not accept that.
02:47And we think it's a terrible mistake, not just for the United States of America, but
02:51for your own countries.
02:53European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that Europe will mobilize
02:57200 billion euros for investment in artificial intelligence.
03:02She stressed that AI is a force for good as long as its benefits are widespread and accessible
03:07to all.
03:08The summit underscores a three-way race for AI supremacy.
03:12Europe striving to regulate and invest, China expanding access through state-backed tech
03:17giants and the U.S. under Trump prioritizing a hands-off approach.
03:27Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurdi's left-wing party won most seats in this weekend's parliamentary
03:33election.
03:34But his new term will face multiple challenges, including the revival of talks on normalizing
03:39relations with Serbia, a key issue in repairing ties with the EU and U.S.
04:10parties to engage constructively in dialogue.
04:13Kurdi is also under pressure to increase public salaries and pensions, improve education and
04:18health services and fight poverty.
04:21Left without a majority in the House, Kurdi's party will have to look for an ally to form
04:25the next government.
04:39Hundreds of migrants were rescued off the coast of the Canary Islands.
04:59Most of the 389 migrants were men, but there were also 46 women and five minors on board,
05:06according to local authorities.
05:09Five of the rescued boats were heading to Lanzarote, while two were heading to the island
05:13of El Hierro.
05:15More than 43,000 migrants arrived to the Canary Islands in 2024, a record-breaking figure.
05:22Last year, European politics took a turn to the right, particularly after EU elections
05:27in June.
05:29As such, many EU member states have started to update their migration policies, just as
05:34migration also comes to the top of the European Council's agenda.
05:39In a letter to EU member states, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen
05:43proposed speeding up the return of asylum seekers and opening detention centers in third
05:48countries.
05:53Romania's President, Klaus Ioannis, announced his resignation on Monday, two months after
05:58a top court announced the country's presidential election.
06:02Following the resignation, demonstrators doubled down on their demands.
06:06Ioannis had served two five-year terms, but his presidency was extended in December.
06:11The demonstrations against him continued in Bucharest after the announcement.
06:41Romania plunged into turmoil after Carlin Dujescu, a far-right ultra-nationalist, won
06:52the first round of the country's presidential election, only for allegations of electoral
06:56violations and Russian interference to emerge.
07:05U.S. President Donald Trump said that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas
07:10should be cancelled if Hamas doesn't release all the remaining hostages by midday on Saturday.
07:17The militant group accused Israel of not holding up its end of the deal and said the delay
07:21served as a warning signal, giving mediators five days to pressure Israel to act.
07:40When a reporter asked if he would consider withholding aid from Jordan and Egypt if they
07:53don't agree to take in Palestinians, Trump said he would.
07:56Trump's latest comment comes shortly after he doubled down on his plan to buy Gaza, which
08:11drew international backlash.
08:13The European Commission said on Tuesday it would respond with countermeasures to safeguard
08:26its economic interests, as U.S. President Donald Trump raised tariffs on aluminium and
08:31steel imports to 25 percent.
08:33Free trade advocates believe that these tariff barriers would significantly harm growth.
09:03The three largest exporters of steel and aluminium to the U.S. are Canada, China and
09:20Mexico.
09:21In Europe, Germany, Italy, France and Austria, all of who export metals across the Atlantic
09:27would be the most affected by these tariff barriers.
09:33Trump already introduced tariffs on aluminium and steel during his first term at the White
09:38House.
09:39They were then replaced with quotas under Joe Biden.
09:43We could do as we did the last time around and retaliate on specific goods in the U.S.
09:48Last time we put in place tariffs on Harley Davidson motorcycles and jeans and stuff like
09:54that.
09:55And then, of course, the EU could do as it did on steel back then and impose a safeguard
10:00action, which is a tariff wall in the EU in general to protect EU producers.
10:07That is still in place since we imposed it in 2019 and it will run until 2026.
10:14These measures could also be counterproductive for the U.S.
10:18The impact for the United States is precisely the opposite of what Trump promised, which
10:23is to bring down inflation, to improve the economy.
10:28And I think what Europeans need to bear in mind is that Trump is not immune to political
10:34gravity.
10:36Donald Trump could also use tariff threats in order to gain leverage, pushing EU member
10:41states towards increasing their defence spending or reducing regulation of the technology sector.
10:59The Joachim Ma Stradivarius, a masterpiece of sound.
11:02And we can start the bidding here.
