00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Monday, February the 16th. Here are the
00:09top stories at this hour. Egypt says it has launched airstrikes against
00:13Daesh targets in Libya after the extremist group released a grisly video showing the
00:18beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians it has held hostage for weeks. An Egyptian
00:24military spokesman said the warplanes targeted weapons caches and training camps before returning
00:29safely. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE foreign minister, has condemned the

00:38strikes in the eastern city of Darna, which was taken over by a Daesh affiliate last year.
00:45As more and more internationally renowned health experts with intensive experience have
00:49begun working in the UAE, hospitals have been able to set up medical precedents. This all
00:54goes well for Dubai's medical tourism initiative, which projects up to 500,000 medical visitors
00:59by 2020, who will account for an annual medical spend of 2.6 billion dirhams.
01:06Ireland caused the first upsets of the Cricket World Cup today when an audacious 92 by Paul
01:11Sterling paved the way for a four-wicket win over the West Indies at Nelson. Sterling stood
01:17in a match-defining 106-run stand with Ed Joyce for the second wicket as Ireland chased
01:22down a 305-run target with 25 balls to spare.
01:27Yuvraj Singh has emerged as the costliest cricketer in the Indian Premier League eight-players
01:32auction, bought for a record $2.57 million by the Delhi Daredevils. Yuvraj was sold after
01:38a fierce tug-of-war for his services between the Daredevils and the Royal Challengers Bangalore,
01:44who bought him last year for $2 million.
01:47Veteran French actor Louis Jourdan, who played the villain in Octopussy and who starred in
01:52Gigi, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 93. Jourdan died of natural causes at his
01:58Beverly Hills home on Saturday, author Olivier Mime said. Like his contemporaries Maurice
02:03Chevalier and Jean-Pierre Aumann, Jourdan used his Gaelic charm and good looks to conquer
02:08Hollywood. Over his decades-long career, he starred in dozens of films and TV series,
02:13acting alongside greats such as Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly and Shirley MacLaine.
02:18And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 29 degrees Celsius, falling
