00:00Manny Pacquiao could not bring his basketball team to victory, but he gave what fans paid
00:21for during Friday night's Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup match-up between
00:26Mahindra enforcers and Alaska Aces at Alawasal Club.
00:30Pacquiao's Mahindra enforcers failed to deliver the killer blow and they suffered a 98-94
00:35loss to the Aces.
00:37The boxer-turned-basketball player and coach Pacquiao did not score in four attempts and
00:41instead logged two errors across his name in the stat sheet.
00:45And after exciting fans for nearly seven minutes as a starting point guard of Mahindra, Pacquiao,
00:50who is also the team's head coach, exited the game and never returned.
00:54Despite Pacquiao's lack of offensive contribution, the enforcers played an inspired ball game
01:00with their playing coach on the floor, racing to a six-point lead early in the first quarter
01:05and were still protecting a two-point advantage when Pacquiao was called back to the bench.
01:09But without Pac-Man on the floor, the momentum seemed to have shifted as Alaska built a nine-point
01:15lead at the end of the first quarter, 31-22, before closing the first half with a 53-40
01:21edge.
01:22Pacquiao beat Vic Manuel, scoring 12 of his team's best 17 points for Alaska in the first
01:27half.
01:28As Pacquiao continued to warm the bench, Mahindra came back strong in the third quarter and
01:32fourth quarter, led by point guard L.A. Revilla, who scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in
01:38the fourth quarter.
01:39But the Aces had already built enough cushion to cruise to their third straight win in the
01:44elimination round of the PBA Philippine Cup.
01:47On the way back to the team's dugout, Pacquiao said the loss was part of the breaks of the
01:51game.
01:52While Mahindra assistant coach Chito Victolero echoed the head coach's optimism.
02:22The loss was Mahindra's third in three starts in the Philippine Cup, leaving them bottom
