00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News Update for Tuesday, May 2.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:08US President Donald Trump opened the door to a future meeting with North Korea's Kim
00:14Jong-un, offering unusual praise for the globally ostracized leader at a time of surging nuclear
00:20tensions.
00:21Although the White House played down near-term prospects for such a meeting, Trump's comments
00:26marked a departure from his more unforgiving tone toward the North in recent weeks.
00:32It marked the latest fluctuation as Trump's administration struggles to articulate its
00:36policy for addressing the growing threat from North Korea's nuclear programme.
00:41Dubai International Financial Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dubai Economy
00:47to allow companies operating within DIFC to obtain licences to operate in mainland Dubai.
00:54The MOU was signed by Esa Qasim, Governor of DIFC, and Sami Al-Khamzi, Director-General
01:00of Dubai Economy.
01:02The strategic partnership will allow non-regulated companies in the DIFC the opportunity to also
01:08operate as mainland businesses under a licence issued by Dubai Economy.
01:13The colour red made a dramatic show on Monday night in the Grand Parade of Fashion at the
01:18Met Gala, including co-chair Katy Perry's look, as did glittery gold and blue feathers
01:24on the back of Blake Lively.
01:27But many of the evening's highlights were courtesy of luminaries who channelled honoree
01:31Rei Kawakubo, including Rihanna encased in fluttery, fetal-like pieces by the Japanese
01:37designer.
01:39Rihanna gestured to the crowd from the carpet in her comme des garçons look with stagy
01:44pink on her cheeks.
01:45Her look was two pieces and a sliver of stomach peeked out from the freewheeling design.
01:50And finally, the weather.
01:51Today's high across the UAE will be 38 degrees Celsius, dropping to 27 degrees at night.
