00:00The annual Reboot CrossFit Games in the U.S. is just around the corner.
00:09Three of the elite CrossFit athletes representing the UAE are Jamie Green, Elliot Simmons, and
00:14Claire Crowley.
00:15CrossFit, as its staple definition, is constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement.
00:21But if you said that to any body, people would be like, okay, so what does that mean?
00:24So basically it's doing different exercises every day at a high intensity.
00:30You've got your weightlifting, gymnastics, bodyweight movements, all put in tune.
00:37You can do it in a class environment, you can train on your own.
00:40But to qualify, athletes must make their mark at the CrossFit Regionals in Madrid this coming
00:45June 2-4.
00:46To qualify for Regionals, there's a five-week process called the Open.
00:51So week one, CrossFit HQ will release a workout.
00:54This year was 2017, so 17.1, 17.2, 3, 4, 5.
00:59Then each workout, you get an individual score and you get put on a leaderboard.
01:03At the end of the five weeks, the region we're in, Africa, the top 10 go through to Regionals,
01:09which is the next stage of competition.
01:12The top 10 from Africa and the top 30 from Europe get combined together and create the
01:17Meridian Regional.
01:18And that's what we're prepping for in Madrid in Spain.
01:21All three were present at the CrossFit Gold Box in Alcúz to conduct the workout of the
01:25day for a select group of individuals.
01:28Galfi Stabloy joins in on the fun and we get to taste a slice of their life.
01:32To become a CrossFit athlete takes a lot of determination.
01:35You have to be complete.
01:36Strength, power, endurance and speed are all required.
01:39We combine weightlifting, gymnastics, metabolic conditioning.
01:44So like metabolic condition being your running, rowing, skipping, cycling, gymnastics being
01:49your bodyweight movement, so pull-ups, push-ups, weightlifting being anything from a deadlift
01:54to a strict press, anything with weight.
01:56Now it's becoming more team-specific, so obviously individuals are working more on their own
02:01towards their weaknesses and strengths, whereas as a team, you have to work as the team's
02:06strengths and the team's weaknesses and lots of like synchronized movements.
02:09Green, Simmons and Crowley are elites because they constantly put in the work and now are
02:14ready to soar at the CrossFit Regionals.
