00:08Canada's long-anticipated 150th birthday celebrations on Saturday
00:13were marked by heavy rains and some protests,
00:16though the downpour failed to dampen spirits of revelers
00:19who thronged in large numbers to enjoy musical performances and parades.
00:23Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kicked off celebrations amid heavy security
00:28and some 25,000 people assembled at a large outdoor celebration
00:32in front of the National Parliament in Ottawa,
00:35where Irish singer Bono and other members of rock band U2 enthralled the audience.
00:41The UN Refugee Agency is heaping pressure on Europe
00:44to help Italy defuse the unfolding tragedy of tens of thousands of migrants flooding its shores.
00:51Italy needs more international support to cope with the growing number of refugees
00:56who have braved a perilous Mediterranean crossing to reach Europe this year,
01:01UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said.
01:04The interior ministers of France, Germany and Italy will meet in the French capital
01:09to discuss a coordinated approach to help Rome.

01:20Rock star Mick Jagger says a newspaper editorial was responsible
01:24for helping him avoid prison for a minor drug offence in 1967.
01:29The Rolling Stones frontman said he had been sentenced to three months in jail
01:34not because of the severity of his crime,
01:37but because band members were being scapegoats by an older generation critical of their lifestyle.
01:43The Times of London editorial underscored this point,
01:46saying Jagger should be treated exactly the same as anyone else.
01:50The 73-year-old singer said the editorial got him out of jail by telling the establishment,
01:55come on guys, this is just not English fair play kind of thing.
