Nagbigay si Senate President Chiz Escudero ng hangganan sa gagastusin para sa tinagurinag pinakamahal na gusali sa bansa: ang New Senate Building. Sabi niya, hindi ito dapat lumagpas sa P31-B. At ang gusaling ilang taon nang ipinapatayo dahil sa mga delay, tinaningan niya na dapat matapos na sa taong 2027.

00:00Senate President Chief Escudero gave an order to spend the most expensive house in the country, the new Senate building.

00:10He said that it should not exceed P31 billion.

00:16And the house that was being built for several years, because of the delays, he insisted that it should be completed by 2027.

00:26In inspection of Senate President Chief Escudero, the new Senate building that was being built earlier, he thinks that there is no overpricing.

00:36For me, there is nothing to complain about, we faced that, but for me, I don't have a job to look for a hole.

00:43My job is to finish it at the lowest cost that we can do, based on the income from the building earlier, because the floor area itself is really wide.

00:54I will not choose what is beautiful, I will choose what is cheaper and practical.

00:57We have nothing to do, we simply have to make do with what we have.

01:00Senator Alan Peter Cayetano used to say that this will be the most expensive house in the Philippines.

01:07If Escudero will be the one to choose, the design of the house should be a box, not like what it looks like now that it has four towers.

01:15But because the towers are already built, it is the job of the Senate to finish it.

01:20Based on the multi-year contractual authority or MICA of the project,

01:24Phase 1 is estimated to be worth 8.9 billion pesos.

01:28The contract for Phase 2 is worth 2.5 billion pesos, while they have a budget for Phase 3 of more than 10 billion pesos.

01:35This includes the value of the land purchased, which is worth 1.6 billion pesos.

01:39In the last report of the DPWH-Senado last month, the value of the new Senate building will reach 31.6 billion pesos.

01:49Escudero said that it should reach up to 31 billion pesos, including all expenses including the land.

01:56I received the briefing from the DPWH and the technical staff of the Senate.

02:04We expect that they will finalize all the answers to your questions in the coming days.

02:11If anything changes, our procedure is clear.

02:14The maximum amount, as we said, is from 31 to 33.

02:21But it looks like they will peg at the 31 cap.

02:25It can't go beyond that, it might go down.

02:28It's just a cap, not the actual amount, because it's subject to bidding.

02:32Aside from the Senators and staff of the Senate, the Commission on Appointments also has an office here.

02:38There is also a bigger detention center for the witnesses who will be detained by the Senate.

02:43Escudero said that it can't be a moving target as to when this will end.

02:48Our target is late 2026 or late 2027.

02:53It won't be early in December 2026 and hopefully it won't go beyond December 2027.

03:01The Senate's first target is that they have already moved here to the new Senate building for the President's 100th anniversary.

03:07But it looks like it will take a few more years for the construction to be completed.

03:10Senate President Cheese Escudero said that maybe it should be moved here after the election of 2028.

03:16For now, the construction of the new Senate building is ongoing.
