00:00It's finally here.
00:12Hi guys, how's it going?
00:13We're checking out the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the world's almost first commercially available
00:19foldable device.
00:20We're going to do a quick unboxing of the device and then we're going to take a first
00:24look at it.
00:25So yeah, let's jump in.
00:26Let's check it out.
00:30Okay, box.
00:35Within a box.
00:36But yeah, I guess, premium device deserves two boxes.
00:40Okay, so first and foremost, that's the device itself, we'll come back to that in a second.
00:47Now one of the first things you're going to notice when you open the box is this little
00:51package.
00:52Now this is currently in French, it'll obviously be in English and Arabic for the retail units
00:56that a person picks up in the UAE.
00:59But this basically talks about Samsung Care Plus.
01:02You get a year's worth of Samsung Care Plus free with these devices, which comes with
01:06a 24-hour hotline for the devices itself because they understand that users might not exactly
01:12know how a certain function works, or they might have an issue with it.
01:16So yeah, it's one year free and they've got a pick up and drop service in case anything
01:21happens in case you break the screen, it's got accidental damage.
01:24So do give that a read if you do end up picking up one of these devices.
01:29This is another one, again, this will be in English and Arabic, but this basically talks
01:32about general care of a device like this, since this is the first time someone might
01:37hold a foldable device.
01:40Now, second one, some documentation, I'm not going to really jump into the documentation,
01:45but the main thing that you're going to see is that they provide a case inside the box
01:50itself.
01:51I forget what this, not metal, but what this plastic was called, but it's got a carbon
01:55fiber finish, and it seems like it would hold the device well, we'll have a shot with that
02:01later on.
02:02Inside the box, you don't get regular wired headphones, you get Galaxy Buds.
02:08They're small wireless buds, which I will talk about further later, but one cool thing
02:14is that one of the reasons that they give these to you is because you can charge these
02:17directly with the phone.
02:20Last but not least, you get charger and some cables.
02:26So here, here's the device, let's get that out.
02:31Now this is the silver one right now, again, in front, and as you can see, Samsung has
02:39taken care of this.
02:40We all know that this device had issues in its first round, and this is the device that
02:46they have re-looked at and made some changes to.
02:48We'll discuss the changes as well in this video, but there's a lot of care, discussions
02:54over here, not to be too hard on the surface, not to use keys and cards, it's not water
03:00and dust resistant, and there's a layer inside there, which I'll show you, which not to peel
03:05off, but until then, let's open this up.
03:10All right, so there you go, that's the foldable device.
03:15All right, so before we talk about what life would be with a foldable device, I'd like
03:21to jump into a few specifications so that we can move on.
03:25First things first, we've got the Snapdragon 855 on this.
03:28We've got 12 gigs of RAM, 512 GB storage, and we've got a 4,380 milliamp battery, but
03:36the battery is a dual one, so there's one part on one side and the other part on the
03:40other side.
03:41You've got a USB Type-C fast charging, no headphone jack, stereo speakers tuned by AMG,
03:49you've got six cameras on this thing, you've got one on the outside right there, you've
03:54got three up here, two up here, and you've got three at the back.
04:01So then first things first, the front screen.
04:04Now this is a 4.6-inch display, it's, well, it's easy to use in the sense that this is
04:12a long format to have in your hand, but because it's relatively smaller and because of the
04:17way you hold the phone, it's not exactly difficult, but this is a very small screen compared to
04:22what we're used to.
04:23A few years ago, a four-inch screen wasn't that bad, but like, at least for me right
04:26now at this minute, if I'm looking at these apps or I'm looking at the text over here,
04:31it's quite minute.
04:32That being said, once you open it up, you've got all this real estate, right?
04:37And there's a lot you can do with it.
04:39Now the number one thing you can do is that because you've got the 855 processor, because
04:43you've got 12 gigs of RAM, you can multitask.
04:46Let me show you.
04:48Suppose I was watching, let's just say, a video, all right?
04:53Suppose I was watching this video, sorry.
04:56So this video is on right now, okay?
04:59So this is going on.
05:04Now let's assume at the same time as this video is going on, sorry, I want to check
05:13out, let's just say, the Golf News website.
05:18So you can do that as well.
05:21In this scenario, you want a third application.
05:24Suppose you want to check your calendar because you remembered something.
05:29You can switch around.
05:30But more importantly, while this is on, you can even have a third one as a pop-up window,
05:38right?
05:39So basically all this can happen simultaneously without interfering with one another.
05:44This creates, well, a lot of opportunities to be productive while you're on the move
05:49on what traditionally is still a smartphone.
05:53Now if we take a quick look at, let's just say, typing.
05:58Now one of the biggest ways we're going to be interacting with this device.
06:01If we jump right into messages over here, you'll notice that the keyboard is already
06:05split in half.
06:07And initially when I looked at this, I thought, okay, this is going to be difficult.
06:10This is going to be something to get used to.
06:12But actually it's pretty intuitive.
06:13I mean, the second you're using it, like I'm typing right now, and I don't seem to have
06:17an issue because the split is enough to where your thumbs would reach.
06:23Similarly on the front one, if you were to type over here as well, it's a smaller keyboard,
06:31but you would easily get used to it because you'd either swipe or you have one-hand usage.
06:38Now there are certain apps that are obviously not yet optimized, but most of everything
06:43that's available here on the device right now, like at the time that I have loaded this
06:47with no account whatsoever, pre-loaded, we've got all the basic apps.
06:51You've got your gallery.
06:52You've got the Google apps.
06:53You've got Netflix, Spotify, Facebook.
06:55All these are optimized for the device itself.
07:01Now in case you were following the Samsung Galaxy Fold story, you know for a fact that
07:04this is not the first, but the second iteration of the same device.
07:08Now some of the improvements that have been made to this device, one, is that the folding
07:12mechanism itself is a bit, let's just say, has a bit more strength to it.
07:18Secondly, you will notice, again, most of y'all haven't seen the first device, but there
07:23are these new hinges over here, which cover what originally used to actually be a gap,
07:28which affected the working of the device itself.
07:31One of the other changes is that originally there's a protective layer on top of this
07:35display, which actually used to stick out, like your screen protector looks right now
07:40on your device, but what Samsung has done is so that people don't peel it off or remove
07:44it in any sort of way, they've put it and tucked it inside the body itself, which obviously
07:49helps with everything else.
07:51But on the overall, since I have seen the first version of the device, I can tell you
07:56that it does seem like it's thought out a little more.
08:01It does seem like it will handle a little more pressure, or rather, a little more pressure
08:06from daily usage, but it doesn't hurt to be a little careful with a first generation folding
08:11phone.
08:13How usability is going to be, what it's going to be like living with a foldable phone is
08:18something that I'll let you know in the near future, but for now, all you have to know
08:22is that the device is available for 7,199 Dirhams and is currently on pre-order with
08:29one year's Samsung Care Plus free.
08:33If you do have questions, don't forget to leave some in the comments below and we'll
08:36try to answer them, but until then, thank you very much for watching.
