00:00The international humanitarian city in Dubai has chartered a cargo plane to deliver over
00:1135 tons of aid and critical supplies to Somalia to help the country combat the coronavirus
00:17pandemic and provide relief to those affected by the floods.
00:23The Mogadishu-bound flight will leave on Wednesday from Sharjah International Airport carrying
00:28essential items including jerry cans, blankets, sleeping mats and kitchen sets to help thousands
00:35of internally displaced Somalis due to floodings.
00:39There are also 10 ventilators, emergency supplies, laboratory diagnostics and personal protective
00:44equipment for community health care workers who are the frontline against COVID-19.
00:50This is for us extremely important because what you are, as media, witnessing today is
00:59the fact that the humanitarian community is not only and exclusively committed in the
01:05extremely important and massive operation for responding to the coronavirus, but even
01:11we are trying to cope with other emergencies such as the natural disaster.
01:17This is the reason behind of having created the international humanitarian city.
01:24The largest humanitarian hub in the world, 140,000 square meters of premises which are
01:33managed under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
01:38According to IHC, the chartered flight was made at the personal request of His Highness
01:42Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and
01:47Ruler of Dubai, to help those most in need during challenging times.
01:51Dubai is a very, very important hub for us because this is being supported by the international
01:56humanitarian city and His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, providing
02:05us the facilities of free housing and the offices and on top of those facilities we
02:11also benefit from the generosity of the ruler of Dubai to support us with these relief supplies
02:19flying to the affected destinations.
02:22Just imagine if you want to send relief supplies to the affected countries, it will take at
02:29least 20 to 30 days by sea.
02:33But with these flight donations we are able to deliver the aid within three to four, five
02:38hours within the sub-Saharan African countries.
