Housed in the Sustainability District, the Spain Pavilion embodies the theme wholly - from its naturally cooling architecture to an interactive forest that shows you the affects of your harmful habits.

Carmen Bueno, Deputy Commissioner General of the pavilion, tells Gulf News how connected the Arab and Spanish heritages are with the age-old game of chess as their common ground as seen in the exhibition.

00:00We are in one of the first areas of the exhibition which is devoted to chess.
00:07And this is precisely devoted to chess because chess is one of the examples of the connection between our cultures.
00:17Chess did arrive to Spain around the 8th century.
00:21It was the Arab people who brought it coming from India.

00:29And in Spain was developed the contemporary rules of chess back in the 15th century.
00:36The main role of the queen in the play was added in Spain.
00:43And then the contemporary rules of chess playing were written in Spain in the 16th century.
00:49And chess is today a universal activity, a universal sport, game and so on.
