00:00Today we're going to talk about indoor plants, why you'd want to have them, how to take care of
00:04them. The plants that we have here today require low light, they don't need water as often as some
00:10other plants. For someone starting out with house plants, we should get plants that suit our
00:15lifestyle the best. If you know you're not going to water your plant often, get a plant like a ZZ
00:20plant here. These plants don't require much water, probably every two weeks if you can remember. This
00:26one is a Monstera plant, probably the hardest of the bunch to take care of because it requires a
00:30bit more water. But like the rest, it's a low light plant that hangs out nicely inside of the house.
00:35When you are doing a great job, these leaves get huge. You can get some leaves about the size of
00:40me. The bird nest fern is indicative of its name. It's actually a fern. In nature, you'll find it
00:46growing in the shade of a tree, which is very similar to the shade in a house. If you think
00:51about the sunlight that reaches the forest floor, it's not much. You're trying to recreate that as
00:55much as possible. We have the spider plant here, which is another great plant for a low light
01:02setting. What's cool about this plant is every once in a while, the plant will start sending out
01:06some pups. If you have some friends that you want to share your plant with, you just cut this pup
01:11off and they'll have a brand new plant. It doesn't require much water. Very good one if you're
01:16forgetful. Another plant that we have here is the pothos. If you have a wall that you want to
01:21soften up with some green, you can set the plant down on a table and have the vines grow up the
01:26wall. This plant here is the calathea, also called the prayer plant because in the evening, the leaves
01:32go up in a prayer form. It will let you know that it needs water by quickly drooping. All the leaves
01:37will drop down, so you know you have a day or two to get some water into this plant before it really
01:42starts to suffer. It's a beautiful plant because of its variegation. These striking green pattern
01:47leaves is one of my favorites. It's just so cool to look at. There is a direct connection with humans
01:53and where we came from. We started in the forest and bringing that kind of setting into your home
01:58is so tranquil, so peaceful. Now that you know some information about these plants, you've chosen the
02:03right plant for your situation. You've chosen the right plant for your house. Know that they are
02:08living things, but also that they're forgiving plants. Have fun. Good luck.
