See him sitting on the sidewalk.
Back pressed up against the wall.
Trying to shelter from the rain
which heavily begins to fall.

Woollen caps upon his head,
sleeping bags enclose his feet.
No pillow where he can lay down,
the cold concrete his lowly bed.

Passers-by just close their eyes,
so a picture from life's other side
they don't want to see.
Let us open our eyes wide enough so
we can see
how life for the homeless will always be,

unless we help their lot to change,
and our own reactions we rearrange,
to benefit all God's beautiful souls.
Place a roof over their heads and food in
their tummies as Winter howls.

A comfy bed,
A place which they can call 'home'
A little place of their very own!\n\nMaire Ui Sheighin
