00:00An estimated 7 billion elevator journeys happen every day.

00:05Pre-COVID, lifts used to be packed with people, some even talking to each other.

00:11Well, not anymore, or at least not until the foreseeable future.

00:16Before COVID, research showed that one third of people would speak to each other in elevators.

00:22Now, it's better that 100% of people don't talk at all.

00:26Here's why.

00:28A recent model lift experiment showed what happens when an infected person talks for one minute inside of a lift.

00:36It shows the threat of infection can linger in the air for a longer time, even after the infected carrier exits.

00:44Which makes us wonder, is taking a lift safe?

00:49So now, people are urged to practice lift hygiene, and here are some tips you can use when entering an elevator.

00:58Wear a mask.

01:00If possible, opt for the stairs. It's also healthier for you.

01:05If a lift is unavoidable, wait at least 2 meters away from the door.

01:10Observe a limit of 2 people at a time.

01:14Maintain a physical distance of 2 meters.

01:18Wait for the next lift if necessary.

01:21Avoid touching your face after pushing the button.

01:24Do not lean against the elevator walls.

01:27And make sure you sanitize your hands after touching anything in there.

01:32So if it's unavoidable for you to use the elevator, it's better not to talk.

01:36Observe elevator etiquette for your safety and peace of mind.
