00:00The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has also been talking.
00:06She's discussed the challenges of a more transactional era in global affairs trend
00:12and she's also touched on President Trump's policies, criticising his tariffs to an extent.
00:19Yeah look, I think if the Vice President had a lot of candour in terms of the message he
00:25wanted to deliver, it was probably Ursula von der Leyen which was the one that came back with
00:29the counterpoint. She was quite strong, kind of taking the fight back to the US and its new
00:35administration's views on things like tariffs. She said, let me speak frankly, at one point
00:41and described the European Union as being one of the biggest, most powerful trading blocks in the
00:45world and she said we are ready to use our own powers and tools to counter any tariffs that the
00:51new Trump administration may place on them. Of course we've already seen that with aluminium
00:57and steel but the message from the Europeans, from Ursula von der Leyen at least, is that if
01:02further tariffs come then the EU is ready to respond and of course that then really raises
01:08the prospects and fears of a, not just a regional probably, but a global trade war which could have
01:14real implications for many economies across the world.
