00:00Ayurveda uses different terminologies in the textbooks which denotes food phobias.
00:06Bhaktadvesha or aversion to eating is one of them.
00:11Food phobia is considered as a bad prognostic symptom as per Ayurveda.
00:16Aversion to eating food is seen in conditions like bronchial asthma, parasitic manifestations
00:23and in acute nerve pains like severe sciatica and all.
00:26Food phobia might be related to psychological factors as well.
00:33Another terminology used by Ayurveda is Anna Anapinandana.
00:38That means food is not welcomed.
00:41It is commonly observed when the individual is angry, scared, depressed or when having
00:48conditions like hatred or due to some mental disorder like bipolar, psychosis etc.
00:55Anadvesha or aversion to food is another terminology.
01:00Ayurveda talks about it or about a specific dislike to a food in several disease contexts.
01:08The food aversions mentioned in Ayurveda may be a feeling of revulsion rather than an anxiety
01:14condition.
01:16We know that almost you know 70% of the pregnant women they show some kind of food aversion

01:25We know that human we are the most adaptable species in the universe.
01:31The human body has a remarkable ability to resist disease process and to maintain our
01:38internal order and physiology.
01:41Ayurveda recognize these unique capabilities and has documented the human body's cravings
01:48and apathy to different food items at different disease situations.
01:52The balance of Vata Pitta Kapha is the healthy physiology as per Ayurveda while imbalance
01:58of Vata Pitta Kapha is the pathology.
02:01Our human body has innate capabilities of restoring the physiology or restoring the
02:08balance of Vata Pitta Kapha by creating phobias and cravings.
02:14So for example, if we have a joint pain which has increased due to an overexposure to a
02:21overexposure to cold.
02:24We can observe a natural aversion to cold exposure and we can also see an affinity for
02:31warmer environment in such cases.
02:35Vata functions get imbalanced by increased intake of spicy foods.
02:41While Vata is impaired, the body will display an aversion or phobia to spicy foods and may
02:48display a craving to sweet taste.
02:52Vata imbalance can also cause phobia or aversion to bitter and astringent taste.
02:59Similarly, Pitta imbalance can result in an aversion to spicy, sour and salty taste.
03:06Kapha imbalance can cause a phobia to sweet, sour and salty taste.
03:12Vata Pitta imbalance cause an aversion to spicy and may result in a craving for sweet
03:19Pitta Kapha imbalance shows aversion to sour and salty and favors bitter and astringent.
03:26And in Vata Kapha imbalance, there might be a phobia to cold potency foods and they prefer
03:33warmer foods.
03:35Not only in you know typical Vata Pitta imbalances, in a condition like Jura or fever,
03:41one can observe an aversion to sweet and an affinity for sour, salty and spicy taste.
03:50A food aversion, it could happen suddenly and ranges from foods you previously enjoyed.
03:57However, it is okay to avoid the food you do not like if you can replace the missing
04:04nutrients in your diet.
04:07Treating the underlying disease generally cures the food aversions and the phobias.
04:13Fasting, usage of carminatives and digestive herbs are also treatment modalities in Ayurveda
04:20for the food phobias.
04:22According to Ayurveda, most of the food aversions and food cravings are a self-healing mechanism
04:30of the human body to restore the Vata Pitta Kapha imbalance.
