00:00So, let's have these conversations about the American League Rookie of the Year.
00:05Baseball is becoming a young man's game.
00:06I mentioned Jason Dominguez for the Yankees, he's plus 300, Roman Anthony, plus 550, Jackson
00:12Jones, plus 700, Jacob Wilson, plus 900.
00:17Let's start this conversation.
00:18We've been pretty good in this market these last couple of years, too.
00:21We gave you Jackson Merrill last year, the year before, we gave you the duo bet, Gunnar
00:26Henderson, Corbin Carroll, together.
00:29We crushed that, and people forget, at one point, Gunnar Henderson looked like a guy
00:33who was going to get sent down to the minor leagues, he was struggling so hard.
00:36And then, second half happened, and boom, that switch flipped.
00:39So, the trick here is to spread it around a little bit, and then watch and see which
00:43seeds that you've planted grow.
00:45Jason Dominguez has a really good opportunity to get out of the gate early for this award,
00:49and run away with it, because he's going to get every day at-bats from the jump.
00:53That's important.
00:54You don't know when the arrival of these other guys is going to happen.
00:57That being said, we've seen guys at the top of this list many times over the years, not
01:01get anywhere close to this award, too.
01:03Gavin Lux comes to mind, just off the top of my head, where I remember when he was at
01:07the top of this, and not even close to sniffing this award.
01:09So, it's trickier, because you just don't know the path of where guys are going to go,
01:14in terms of their development.
01:15Jackson Holliday was the chalk last year in the American League.
01:18How did that work out?
01:20Not well.
01:21Not well.
01:22Anthony Volpe, another guy, a couple years ago, people were chasing, and understandably
01:25why.
01:27Sometimes those Yankee prospects get a little overrated.
01:29I like Jason Dominguez.
01:30I think he's a really good player.
01:31I think he could be a guy that does win this award, and 3-1 is a pretty good odds for him.
01:36We just had Jeff Ponce on the show from Baseball America on Fantasy Pro's MLB YouTube channel,
01:42and Jeff is about as good as it gets in the prospect world, right?
01:45That's what he does for a living, and he came in and gave us some names of what he thought
01:49we really should look for, and guys making fantasy impact, and that means impact in this
01:53award, too.
01:54So, the one that he gave me at the top of his list was a Red Sox, but it wasn't Roman
01:59Anthony.
02:00It was actually Christian Campbell, and a big reason was his versatility, that if Christian
02:04Campbell hits, they're just going to find ways to get him in the lineup, because he
02:08can play infield spots.
02:09He can play second.
02:10He can play short.
02:11He can play center.
02:12He can play left.
02:13Like, he could play this kid wherever, whereas Roman Anthony is a little bit more locked
02:17into that position situation, so Campbell at plus 1,000 is where I want to start.
02:22To me, he's the most intriguing guy there.
02:24The favor of Jason Dominguez, again, as an investment, makes sense to me, but it's really
02:28the long shot of Christian Campbell I want to watch out for.
02:31Kobe Mayo, very intriguing player.
02:33Still has a lot of hit and miss.
02:35If I want to go even deeper, Kumar Rocker, I don't love as a starting pitcher.
02:40I would wait on this and watch it, because I think it's going to fall out of this plus
02:441,600 range, but at some point, if they move him to the bullpen, and Kumar Rocker becomes
02:50a closer, and none of these other guys really emerge, this guy has Lee Smith type of potential,
02:55and that's a name from the 80s and 90s you might remember of a guy that was just a big
02:59dude throwing hard, and he just attacks home plate, right?
03:05Everything's just coming at you at one time.
03:07It's a lot.
03:08He's a big guy, just like Lee Smith was, and it's very intimidating at bat.
03:12If he ends up as the closer, you could see the way Mason Miller was at the top for this
03:16award for many months.
03:17You could see Kumar Rocker doing that, too, but for right now, give me Dominguez and Campbell.
03:21That's where I want to go to.
03:23Jobe is exciting and interesting.
03:24I just don't know.
03:25Again, I kind of lean towards the position players here.
03:27Matt, who stands out to you for American League Rookie of the Year, potentially?
03:31Well, first, let me tip my cap.
03:33Great stuff, as always, from you.
03:34Really insightful and informative.
03:37I'm going to get in on the Oakland bandwagon.
03:39I think they're going to be fun.
03:40I think Jacob Wilson's going to be a big part of that, plus 900.
03:43It's just a fun way to be a part of this A's team this year.
03:47We documented earlier the differences playing in the New Park, playing to packed houses,
03:51just being really...
03:52And they're a good team, too, and there's a lot to that team.
03:56My long shot is also coming from the American League.
03:59Should he break camp?
04:00It's with the Guardians.
04:01It's Chase DeLauder.
04:02He's plus 3,000.
04:03This is a lefty bat, plays the outfield, drafted in the first round of 2022, I believe, but
04:08I really think there's an influx of young guys coming to Cleveland that are really going
04:11to help.
04:12Jose Ramirez.
04:13Also keep an eye on Travis Bizzano.
04:14He's in double A, but plays second base, drafted in the first round, I think, of last
04:18year.
04:19These are some long shots.
04:20Because a team like Cleveland is there, there's going to be more eyes on it.
04:23Joe often talks about these smaller market teams or teams that play out on the West Coast.
04:27More people should know Jose Ramirez's greatness, and if that trickles down to being aware of
04:31some of these young rookies, that's a good way to make some money, Joe.
