00:00Yeah, look, I think the important thing is we did win today, that was kind of, it was
00:09an important game for us, an important week for us, you know, we needed to sort of put
00:18on a performance today that gets us the result and I thought we did that and that coupled
00:23with the fact that we got some, you know, significant players back and they got through
00:26the game and got through unscathed and actually, you know, really contributed, important for
00:31us because, as I said, it sort of signals a little bit of an opportunity now for us
00:39to push on from here.
00:41Yeah, I mean, it does, it makes a massive difference and even, you know, getting guys,
00:50I mean, you know, Vic and Matt has contributed straight away, you know, you can see the quality
00:56they have, the presence they have and, as you said, I could, you know, put guys on
01:00and they can contribute to what we were doing and for a lot of them, I mean, you know, especially
01:06Brennan and Wilson, Vic, Matt has to a certain extent, you know, it might take them one or
01:12two games to get up to speed but the fact we have them available, yeah, it's an enormous
01:17boost for us.
01:20Well, I mean, obviously I wasn't outside so I can't comment on that but I thought the
01:30fans were great today in the stadium, I thought they got behind the team and it was important,
01:34like I said, it was an important game for us, you know, considering kind of the build-up
01:40for the week and how we had an opportunity to kind of just have a breather and kind of
01:46assess things and also allow us to work with the players leading into it, yeah, I thought
01:52the fans contributed to us, you know, getting the result we needed.
02:08Yeah, I mean, everyone's mentioned the celebration, I didn't see it so I can't comment on it,
02:12it doesn't surprise me that, you know, Matt didn't accept what was being said about him
02:18and threw a shot back over the bar but just great to have him back.
02:23Look, he's a quality player, you know, again, if you just look at his goals returned this
02:28year from midfield, he's still right up there, you know, and, you know, he got frustrated
02:33when he got injured and to be honest, we didn't think he'd be back for a couple of weeks but
02:38he's worked awfully hard at training, done everything right to make sure he's available.
02:41I think that's the key thing for us, we've seen it with all our players, you know, and
02:45particularly in recent times that they all just, the injured ones, just all desperate
02:50to contribute, they've seen what the other guys have sort of gone through and they're
02:54just pushing hard and, you know, even Brendan, Wilson, Destiny, you know, they're really
02:59keen to be involved today, you know, there was no me holding them back, they really wanted
03:03to be a part of it and, yeah, pleased, I thought Matt took his goal well but also, you know,
03:09contributed to sort of us getting the victory.
03:15He got a knock in his knee, I think him, Rodri and Sonny all got sort of knocks, I don't
03:22think it's anything significant but, again, the beauty of it is now we can actually get
03:26him to recover rather than try and patch him up and throw him out again midweek so, I think,
03:32yeah, from what I know, knocks all three of them but they should be fine.
03:36John?
03:37Do you sense a sort of return of confidence as such with just the return of players, you
03:43know, that must lift the mood changes?
03:46Yeah, I don't know if confidence is the right word but you're right about lifting the mood,
03:49I sense that at training, not just with the players, even the coaches, you know, we've
03:53hardly trained the last two months, we've just kind of gone out there and tried to work
03:57on things without putting a physical toll on the players because of the game schedule
04:01and also we've had to do it with under 21 and under 18 players but this week all of
04:06a sudden we've had, you know, 20 senior fit players which gives everyone a boost.
04:11Training's a little bit more sort of energetic, it's more up-tempo, the players and the coaches
04:17all kind of respond to that and feeds in.
04:19That's why I thought it was important today we got a win because, you know, that allows
04:24us then, okay, well, we can do that again this week, build into a big week and there's
04:29no doubt the players understand, you know, when you see the likes of Vic and Madders
04:33and Destiny, Brent and Wilson all training again and, you know, they feel good as well
04:38because, you know, as much as all the players want to play they also know that they needed
04:43help and, you know, they got it this week.
04:46And what can that do for the team for the rest of this season because we are already
04:50ahead then?
04:51Well, you know, I certainly believe there's still a hell of a lot on offer for us this
04:58back half of the year.
05:00You know, Europe's the obvious one but even in the league I think we can make inroads
05:04there.
05:05We're not happy with where we are.
05:06It's unacceptable that we're in the position we are.
05:09But the circumstances have kind of dictated that to a great extent.
05:15Those circumstances will change.
05:18You know, like I said, the guys who came back in today will, you know, over the course of
05:23the next two, three weeks I'm sure will improve and, you know, again make us stronger.
05:27And there's still, you know, two or three more on the horizon who will also come back
05:33and, you know, I think that gives us an opportunity, a foothold.
05:37It's only one game but I thought today was an important game if we were going to start
05:43that process because getting three points today allows us now to start thinking about,
05:48okay, we're starting to make an impact.
05:50Nizar.
05:58Well, considering you guys were asking me about relegation about ten days ago, I don't
06:04think either is where we're looking at.
06:06I think, I do think the league's tight.
06:09I don't think, you know, what's happened to us is going to happen to other clubs and
06:17it's coming.
06:18And, you know, people think I'll be making excuses all along and want to look at what
06:23we're doing as just the cause of that.
06:26But trust me, other clubs will feel it as well.
06:29And as John said, it's only mid-Feb.
06:32It's a fair way to go.
06:34So I guess European football for us this year is important.
06:40Obviously we're in the Europa League and we've got an opportunity there to make an impact
06:44but I feel we can make an impact in the league.
06:47Today was a step towards that.
06:49We can play better, for sure.
06:50We will play better.
06:51But we certainly feel with all the players coming back that we've got an opportunity
06:56to address the position we're in.
07:03If I check my office, I don't have any sympathy cards from other managers.
07:07So I can tell you that that hasn't happened.
07:09But there's definitely empathy there.
07:12I mean, I can see today Ruben, you know, he's sort of had to put a team together, play players
07:16out of position, have kids on the bench.
07:18Well, welcome to my world.
07:21But that's for one game.
07:22Now do that for two months.
07:24Do that for two months.
07:25Any club, do that for two months.
07:27Because I thought Man United were good today considering all that.
07:30And we had our days when we were good.
07:32We beat Liverpool in this spell.
07:34We had other significant victories.
07:36But do that for two months.
07:38Thanks.
07:46Thanks.
