Weather Forecast 17th Feb - Temperatures reach double figures after cold snap
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Well, milder air is on its way, but we still do have some snow in the forecast.
00:06Through this morning, though, there is some bright spells out there, especially across
00:10the southeast of England after a chilly start. Towards the west, holding on to a lot of grey
00:15skies once again. But in western Scotland, there are a few wintry flurries with some
00:20showers across parts of Orkney and Shetland. But on the whole, it's a largely dry Monday.
00:26And as for temperatures, still on the chilly side, especially in the east, temperatures
00:31still only around 4 or 5 degrees out towards the far south and west. Highs of up to 8 or
00:37even 10 degrees, but quite a brisk south and southeasterly wind developing. But as we go
00:44through Monday evening and overnight, a band of heavy rain across Northern Ireland will
00:49push its way further towards the north and east, so take care during rush hour. As this
00:53meets the cold air across Scotland, that's where we could see the risk of freezing rain
00:58to give icy stretches and also some snow that could lead to some disruption. Further towards
01:04the south of that, though, across much of England and Wales, actually, it's a largely
01:08dry but often cloudy picture to start Tuesday morning. There could still be a touch of frost
01:15in places where we see any clear skies, but on the whole, temperatures are actually slightly
01:20milder, especially out towards the west. So as we go through Tuesday morning, then
01:26it's an unsettled start across Scotland with outbreaks of rain, snow and the risk of that
01:31freezing rain. But that will gradually move its way northwards and ease as we go through
01:36the day. Then across much of the UK, actually, it's a dry picture into Tuesday afternoon,
01:42perhaps with some hazy spells of sunshine across much of England and Wales, but often
01:47cloudy across Northern Ireland and still with quite a brisk breeze around. But as the temperatures
01:54less cold than recent days, we're starting to see temperatures rise. So in the far south,
02:00that's where we'll see temperatures the highest at around eight to 10 degrees. So as we go
02:07through midweek, that's when the temperatures really start rising. We'll start to see milder
02:12air being brought up from southwesterly winds. So most of us come Thursday and Friday, we'll
02:18see temperatures rising into the double digits. But for more details on all of that, make

02:28bye.
