00:00As of February 1, more than 28,000 cases of dengue have been reported in the country.
00:1540% higher than in the same period in 2024.
00:21And in Mandaluyong, there is a barangay that will provide fertilizer for each mosquito that will be caught.
00:27Here is the reaction of the health department on the testimony of Oscar Oida.
00:34The loss of fish in Old Balarat in Quezon City has already been tested as a countermeasure against dengue.
00:40The barangay is studying to do this again.
00:43Mostly, we put all of that in canals.
00:46They eat fish, eggs, and mosquitos.
00:52So, in our opinion, almost 50% of the cases of dengue have been reduced.
01:00They have already learned how to clean, especially those that can be eaten by mosquitos.
01:05Especially, Quezon City has a dengue outbreak where less than 10 people are infected.
01:12In Barangay Addition Hill in Mandaluyong City, more than 40 people have contracted dengue since January.
01:19Two of those infected are 14-year-old Shantelly Tordillo.
01:24Her family thought that her illness was just a simple flu.
01:29But she was not able to go home from the hospital.
01:32In the hospital, blood was coming out of my nose.
01:35She was sucking blood.
01:37Her kindness and happiness is just a reminder that her grandmother Lorena will be back.
01:43We were hoping that she will recover.
01:46Because we will do everything to make her recover.
01:49But we didn't know that...
01:51Barangay Addition Hill will launch a program that has money for the mosquitoes.
01:56What our residents will do to involve them,
02:00they will bring us even alive, dead, or even dead.
02:08We will exchange at least five pieces of mosquito net in exchange of one peso.
02:14If they are still alive, they will be sent to what they call a mosquito death chamber.
02:19They will be locked up there until they reach the ultraviolet light.
02:23The matter has already reached the Department of Health.
02:27Although they are happy with the initiatives against dengue,
02:31they gave a reminder.
02:33Maybe later it will be like a fishing.
02:36In fishing, the more fish, the bigger the profit.
02:39Maybe later we will have a feeding of mosquitoes.
02:42We don't want that.
02:43It's better if we go to our local health office or to the Department of Health.
02:49Barangay Addition Hill made it clear.
02:52In addition, minors are not allowed to join the program.
02:57We will not do this forever.
02:59This is just an alternative to lower our cases.
03:03In San Juan City, the fight against dengue is increasing.
03:07The health office in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, is conducting an information drive
03:13and is providing mosquito net with insecticide to schools and barangays.
03:19175 cases of dengue have been reported in the city.
03:23Eight more places are declaring dengue outbreak according to the DOH.
03:27But the places are not yet named.
03:30In the past, this was not the time of dengue.
03:33But it seems like the situation is changing.
03:36It's not the time of rain.
03:38But the so-called shearline, ITCZ, and Easterleaf,
03:42the water flows are increasing.
03:44And when the water flows are increasing,
03:46it really accumulates around.
03:48The mosquitoes are increasing.
03:50That's why it's important to clean the impacted water.
03:53And if you feel something, don't ignore it.
03:57Like the up and down of the flood.
03:59When the flood is gone,
04:01and the so-called warning signs are coming out,
04:04like the destruction of the sky,
04:07the pollution,
04:08the color of the soil,
04:10consult with a center or hospital
04:13to make sure.
04:14Because there are tests for that.
04:16It's not expensive, sometimes it's free.
