00:00Congratulations on coming back for another hosting gig.
00:05What's the most fun part of hosting this show for you?
00:09Oh, I mean, just being handed a microphone.
00:13That's fun in and of itself, right?
00:16I think being in a room full of my peers
00:21and having spent time, you know, adjusting the creative
00:25and trying to make it perfect
00:28and trying to make it kind and happy
00:31because I'm not a person who roasts anybody
00:33or who will attack anyone with a joke.
00:36Just honestly, striving to make people giggle
00:40throughout the night.
00:41That's fun in and of itself.
00:43Yeah, I mean, that said, how do you adjust the creative
00:47or how have you guys adjust the creative
00:48given, you know, the recent devastation
00:51that we've had here with the fires?
00:53Well, honestly, that was, I was sort of in tune with that
00:57when I agreed to do this or going forward.
01:00It felt, at first glance, it felt pretty superfluous
01:03to have an award show like this.
01:05But once you think about it, you realize,
01:07wait a minute, these shows not only provide one night
01:11of normalcy and happiness for people,
01:13but they employ hundreds of people in Los Angeles
01:16that are gig workers, drivers, makeup artists,
01:19hair artists, caterers, tech workers, musicians.
01:23It's actually quite important for the economy
01:25for these shows to continue.
01:27And I think that particularly because the industry
01:31is based in Los Angeles, we have a responsibility
01:34to show up and do this show.
01:36Yeah, no, I really appreciate everything
01:38that you just said right there, 100%.
01:41Will you, I mean, I'm sure there will be some addressing
01:44of it in the room on the day, right?
01:46Yeah, I mean, I plan on it.
01:47I'll, it's, you know, it's a collaboration among everyone,
01:50but certainly we're not gonna deny that it's happened.
01:53And I hope to celebrate some of the first responders
01:57and I hope that, you know, maybe we can raise
01:59a little money for it.
02:00I am very excited that the SAG Awards
02:04makes a sizable donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation,
02:07which is incredibly important to the people
02:10who receive funding from that, which the ones in the room
02:14at the SAG Awards are not who is receiving benefits
02:18from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
02:19I think it's like, it's a misconception.
02:21It's less than 1%.
02:23The reality is there are actors throughout Los Angeles
02:27that, you know, work sometimes steadily, sometimes not,
02:30and they receive disaster relief, emergency assistant,
02:33career building classes, and those funds
02:37are really, really important.
02:38And like I said, I feel like we have a responsibility
02:41to show up.
02:42Yeah, no, again, I, dead on on all of that.
02:45I love it.
02:46I know you, unfortunately, Adam and Layton lost their home.
02:50Have you talked to Adam and Layton?
02:51How are they doing?
02:52What's the update?
02:53What do you know?
02:54They're okay.
02:55They're, I think, experiencing what everyone else
02:59in Los Angeles is experiencing, which is a bit of shock.
03:04I think that what I've seen most from people
03:08who've lost their homes,
03:08because I know quite a few people who have,
03:11it's almost like a state of paralysis, I think,
03:14because, you know, we want to say,
03:16people who didn't lose their homes want to say,
03:17what do you need?
03:18I'll help you.
03:19And the people who lost their homes are saying,
03:21I don't know.
03:22I don't know how to think about this yet.
03:25So I hope that Los Angeles is patient.
03:28And I hope that the support systems
03:31and the networks that are being created right now
03:34last for a year or maybe more,
03:37because, you know, there have been so many great
03:40outreach programs put together
03:42where people are receiving goods and services,
03:44but that doesn't need to end this month.
03:46That needs to be here for three months and six months
03:48and nine months and a year
03:50while these people rebuild
03:51and figure out where they're going to go.
03:53Yeah, and as you said,
03:54you're looking forward to bringing some light
03:55and some levity and a night of normalness
03:59to the town for, you know, at least for the night.
04:02I'm sure you know a lot of the people who are nominated.
04:05I'm sure you're fans of a lot of them,
04:07but who in particular are you looking forward
04:09to celebrating?
04:10Is there a performance or a few that you really loved?
04:13I'm an obsessive Jean Smart fan,
04:16so I'm always game to tell her how much I love her.
04:19I don't know if she enjoys that whenever I see her.
04:23I always secretly love somehow hiding in a corner
04:27with Ted Danson and just gossiping with him for the evening,
04:30which we obviously did at the Golden Globes
04:33because he's one of my favorite people.
04:35The list is endless.
04:36It's a very fun room because it's all your peers
04:39and it's a lot of like, even for actors,
04:41it's people watching.
04:43What can you tell me about season two, Nobody Wants Us?
04:46Congratulations on your nomination.
04:48I can't tell you anything.
04:50You know that.
04:51I know, but it's like in progress though.
04:54Yes, yes.
04:55It's being written right now.
04:56It's actually close to being finished.
04:58We'll start shooting the first week of March
05:00here in Los Angeles,
05:02employing Los Angeles crew workers and drivers and caterers
05:06and everyone who needs jobs here in Los Angeles.
05:08I'm very proud of that fact.
05:11And I think the writer's room this year
05:14is attempting to give the people what they want
05:18with the show.
05:18Which is, yeah.
05:19Which is another season of Nobody Wants This.
05:22I know, more and more,
05:24more hotness between you and Adam Brody.
05:28Which I gotta say, I also appreciate,
05:30I love Dax's response to all of this too.
05:34Like watching him be such a fan of you and him
05:37and your characters and their relationship.
05:39You know, were there ever moments where you were like,
05:41all right, maybe close your eyes during this moment?
05:43This scene?
05:44Oh, no, no, no.
05:45No, cause we don't,
05:46no, we root for each other.
05:48When he got to make out with Minka Kelly on Parenthood,
05:51I was like, yes!
05:53Get it!
05:55We're only human.
05:56I mean, we're married, we're not dead.
05:58But I'm very supportive of him.
06:00He's very supportive of me.
06:01And also, Adam has been one of our favorite actors,
06:05Dax and I, together for as long as I can remember.
06:08And Dax put him in Chips when he directed Chips
06:10with him and Michael Peña.
06:12And we just love what he does on camera so much.
06:16But I think Dax also, there's no real threat there
06:18because Adam and I, if you were to see us in person,
06:21there is not chemistry.
06:22We bicker all the time.
06:24We're like an old granny and grampy.
06:26Like it's not, it's not hot and heavy on set at all.
06:30But there's something that happens
06:32that this is like an X factor of some actors.
06:35When like you put the lens on them,
06:36there's just a chemistry.
06:38And Adam and I happen to have that and we will exploit it.
06:40I mean, what is the key to that?
06:42I mean, it's, I know it's work, right?
06:44I mean, that this is what you guys do,
06:46but what do you think is the key to that
06:47in your relationship?
06:48That it's like, you guys can watch each other
06:50and get psyched when you're kissing somebody else.
06:52Foundational trust.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Even if Dax hooks up with the most beautiful person
06:59in the world at work, I know he's committed to our family.
07:06I know he's coming home.
07:07I know he loves our children.
07:09I know he strives to be a great husband and father.
07:11And I think it's a level of foundational trust
07:15and also not making it such a taboo topic
07:19because we're just human, right?
07:21So maybe there could be a day where I'm like,
07:23I'm actually really nervous
07:24that you spend time with that person.
07:26And he could say, oh, okay, let's talk about it.
07:28What makes you nervous?
07:29What are you thinking?
07:31We have a very open communication.
07:35I love it, man.
07:35I appreciate you.
07:36I appreciate everything you guys are doing.
07:38And on a personal note, you won't remember this,
07:40but like, well, I guess it's six years ago
07:42before my daughter was born.
07:43You gave me a, I came up during one of our interviews
07:46and you gave me a list of books
07:48that I was about to have my first kid.
07:49You were like, I think The Happiest Baby was one.
07:52Happiest Baby on the Block.
07:53I am constantly offering unsolicited advice.
07:56No, it was amazing because I needed it.
07:58But thank you so much.
07:59It was very sweet of you.
08:01And I've always appreciated that.
08:02And how old is she now?
08:04Six and a half.
08:05Nice.
08:07Yeah, congratulations.
08:08Well, good luck during the show.
08:09We'll be rooting for you.
08:11Thank you so much.
08:13Thank you so much.
