00:00A coalition is working to find a vaccine against dengue fever.
00:05Now, the number of cases of dengue fever is increasing in the country.
00:08Watch this. This is Oscar Oida.
00:13The authorities and residents in Ilocos Region are alerted
00:17because of the increase of dengue fever.
00:20We are always cleaning.
00:22It's hard. If you don't have money,
00:25you go to the hospital and you don't have money.
00:3080% of the cases in the region increased this year
00:35compared to the same period in 2024.
00:38The highest number was in Bangasinan, where two people were infected.
00:43In Quezon City, almost 2,000 cases of dengue fever were reported in the city.
00:4911 people were infected.
00:51Based on the data of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division,
00:55almost 200% of the cases of dengue fever were reported
00:59from January 1 to February 14
01:02compared to the same period last year.
01:06That's why in Tandang Sora Elementary School,
01:08students are being encouraged to wear long sleeves
01:12and long socks
01:14to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes.
01:17This year, only five cases of dengue fever were reported in the school.
01:21Mosquitoes fly low.
01:26So the ones that get bitten are the arms and legs.
01:32They also recommend using mosquito repellent.
01:36Parent volunteers continue to clean around the school.
01:41It's okay because they have protection.
01:46For me, it's okay because there are a lot of people who have died.
01:53It's hard because I only have one child.
01:56According to the Department of Health,
01:59dengue cases in the country reached almost 30,000
02:03from January 1 to February 1 this year.
02:07The highest number was in Siam, inside the Calabar Zone, Central Zone, and NCR.
02:13We have Siam, the LGU,
02:15together with the City of Siam,
02:17where we saw an increase in the number.
02:20Because of the alarming number of cases,
02:23the Empowering Networks to Defeat Dengue or End Dengue Coalition asked the President
02:29to abolish the search for a vaccine against dengue.
02:33WHO recommended that for highly endemic countries,
02:41like the Philippines,
02:43use effective methods.
02:46Vaccine is one of them.
02:48According to the DOH,
02:50the Food and Drug Administration is currently studying a vaccine.
02:55The DOH's advice now is for everyone,
02:58that science is planned and ensured.
03:01We should wait for the evaluation of our Food and Drug Administration.
03:06The PhilHealth increased the coverage for severe dengue cases.
03:11It means that patients can claim up to Php 47,000.
