The government has today launched an eight-week consultation on a major reform of Britain’s railways. These measures include the creation of Great British Railways, a public sector body which will manage rail infrastructure and train operations. They will also be able to report instances of poor performance to a regulator for enforcement action. Report by Jonesia. 00:44We are already delivering improvements with things like
00:47the rollout of pay-as-you-go ticketing in the South East,
00:50working with the West Midlands and Greater Manchester
00:53on their plans for tap-in, tap-out tickets,
00:57and we also want to bring down the number of cancellations
01:01and delays, and we're having some success with that
01:03on line operators such as LNER, South Eastern Trains.

01:17It's just we have a really expensive train service
01:20and so often it's cancelled because there's lack of train crews.
01:23I'm from Belgium where trains aren't privatised,
01:26so for me it's much more expensive here.
01:29Overpriced for the quality of the trains.
01:32I don't think it's right, especially as I commute
01:36to other places outside London and the price is,
01:39you're looking like 15, 20, 30, you know, quid just one way.
01:44Yeah, I think it does need to be reduced.
01:47It costs me around 500 per month, so 25 a day,
01:51so it's very expensive.
01:53Train travel is very expensive.
01:55The prices are ridiculous.
01:57You're supposed to be saving the planet
01:59and the price of travelling anywhere,
02:01if there's more than one of you, you might as well get in your car.
