00:00Yeah, and you mentioned, you know, the fact that it's only the Russians and the Americans
00:04and that to the advantage of the Russians, there's no European involvement for now, there's
00:08no Ukrainian involvement for now. Donald Trump has said NATO membership for Ukraine is not
00:14going to happen. I mean, how do you rate the negotiating skills of the Trump administration
00:21so far?
00:22Well, I think it's too early to sort of take a judgment on that, Tom, but it is certainly
00:27unusual for one side to be making what looks like concessions up front. And you'll have
00:34noticed that the Russians have said absolutely nothing at all of substance. They're maintaining
00:38their maximalist views, as they always have on Ukraine. So I think it is somewhat unusual
00:45for the Americans to be laying out some of their negotiating tactics in advance and particularly
00:52doing so in the absence of any agreement from the Ukrainian side. So we'll have to
00:59see how it develops. As I say, I think this is very much a preliminary exchange in Riyadh.
01:07And I think there's going to be a lot more negotiations, which will involve both Ukrainians
01:11and I hope the Europeans over the next few weeks.
