00:00Hello from the Bureau of Meteorology. Here's the national weather forecast for Thursday the 20th of February
00:06Let's see what's going on around the country and for many people
00:09It will be the last day of the cooler weather that we've been experiencing recently before
00:13Temperatures in the south start to climb again for Friday and the weekend minimal rain around Australia for Thursday
00:19But we will see showers across much of the East Coast and we will also see a little area of thunderstorms
00:25Maybe even some severe storms across inland and southern parts of Western Australia
00:30Let's go around the states now and most of Central and Eastern Queensland
00:35Can expect a couple of showers through the day on Thursday
00:38It's going to be a day where a lot of people get a little bit of rainfall
00:41The totals won't be large two to five millimeters
00:44Maybe a couple of spots picking up ten millimeters and in between each of those showers
00:48Should be some long bright sunny breaks as well
00:51The only spots really lining up for some slightly heavier falls of the far north of the peninsula and up around the Gulf of Carpentaria
00:58It's a similar story through New South Wales
01:01We're also anticipating some showery weather about and east of the mountain ranges and actually for New South Wales
01:07We could get some moderate totals around Sydney the Hunter District and up into the Mid North Coast as well
01:12Especially if you do live in those hills if you're west of the main mountain range
01:17It's going to be another dry sunny day and temperatures similar to the last few days
01:21Just a couple below average cloud cover across Canberra, especially through the morning a high of 24 there
01:27We have high pressure really digging in around Victoria and what that means is the morning will be cloudy in the south
01:34But sunny north of the ranges throughout the course of the day on Thursday. It will become sunny everywhere across the state
01:41So a nice bright afternoon and evening no matter where you are
01:43Temperatures still range quite a lot low 20s for many in the south below average there
01:48but high 20s or even 30 degrees in the north a
01:52Light shower or two for the west and south of Tasmania throughout the day on Thursday
01:56But the flip side of that token is that it will be dry in the north and in the east most places
02:02Getting into the low 20s
02:03But expect to see those numbers climbing over the next few days a little bit of cloud cover here and there
02:09But most of the afternoon should be nice and sunny for Launceston and Hobart
02:13Certainly will be a clear sunny day across South Australia with that high pressure further south
02:18Not really expecting much cloud or any rainfall across the state temperatures still a touch cooler than average
02:24But once again climbing towards the weekend
02:28Sunny weather across the west coast of the country including around Perth, but through the afternoon and evening
02:33We will see some showers and storms build around this dashed blue line
02:37That's a trough of low pressure
02:39The showers and storms most likely to impact the central wheat belt the great southern district and even down along parts of the south coast
02:46As well, we could even see some damaging wind gusts and some large hailstones coming out of those thunderstorms
02:51One or two showers and storms for inland parts of the Pilbara drier around the coast
02:56And a fairly benign day across northern Australia on Thursday as well
03:00We do have this tropical low here out to the northwest of the Kimberley that has a moderate chance of tropical cyclone
03:06Development over the next couple of days
03:08But if we see this tropical cyclone development occur
03:11Everything's going to be pushed further and further this way away from the country and even a tropical cyclone system won't have any impact
03:19on our weather leaving us with
03:20relatively settled conditions across
03:22Australia's north one or two showers or storms for most places in the top end the Kimberley looking really dry for Thursday and dry
03:29further south and for the nation's interior
03:31To see what the weekend ahead has in store find your longer-range forecast at the Bureau's website or on the BOM weather app
03:37Thanks for watching and have a nice day
