00:00The United Nations Human Rights Office has said that the fighting in Sudan has led to
00:04widespread human rights violations and abuses.
00:07The abuses range from attacks on densely populated areas, the deliberate targeting of health
00:11facilities and ethnically motivated summary executions, sexual violence and other violations
00:21and abuses underscore the utter failure by both parties to respect the rules and principles
00:27of international humanitarian and human rights law.
00:31The conflict in Sudan began in April 2023 and has now killed more than 28,000 people,
00:37forced millions to flee their homes and left some families struggling.
00:41Since the beginning of 2025, the situation has escalated further, with ongoing battles
00:47in multiple hotspots.
00:48Regrettably, civilians continue to bear the brunt of the escalating violence.
00:54An estimated 3.2 million people have crossed into neighbouring countries including Chad,
00:58Egypt and South Sudan.
01:00The UN is now calling for an arms embargo on Sudan.
01:05The international community should, among other measures, expand the arms embargo and
01:10the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court to cover the whole of Sudan.
01:15They currently only cover the region of Darfur.
01:18The UN further said that it had documented more than 150 incidents of sexual violence
01:23in the country committed by various parties.
