The culture secretary says it is "devastating" that many young people do not have the skills required to work in creative industries. Lisa Nandy has announced the launch of the Arts Everywhere Fund, which will invest more than £270 million in creative industries. She adds that over the last "decade and a half", the government has "recklessly cut funding to things that grow our economy and create good jobs and growth". Report by Brooksl. 00:00The creative industries are amongst the fastest growing industries in the UK,
00:05creating good jobs and growth all over the country,
00:08whether it's film, TV, music, we export to every part of the globe
00:13and we have investors clamouring to come and invest here in the UK.
00:17But for a decade we've seen culture erased from our classrooms and our communities
00:22and one of the biggest breaks on the creative industries is the lack of skills,
00:26the lack of young people with the skills to be able to work in those industries.
00:31We think that's devastating for young people who can see these great jobs being created
00:36but couldn't dream of getting them, they could no more dream of getting them than of going to the moon.
00:41We're determined that that's going to change and that's why we're launching the Arts Everywhere Fund today.
00:45We can't continue with the situation that we've had for the last decade and a half
00:51where we've recklessly cut funding to things that grow our economy,
00:56that create good jobs and growth.
00:58Like the Crown Works film studio up in Sunderland,
01:02just a few weeks ago I hosted major investors from all over the globe,
01:06Warner Brothers, Amazon, Disney, in Gateshead.
01:09They've flown in to talk to us about their desire to invest more here in the UK
01:15but they need the government to help take the brakes off
01:18and make sure that we have that skilled workforce that can enable every part of this country to thrive.
