00:00In basketball, the Guilas Filipinas sustained their first defeat in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers in the hands of Chinese Taipei.
00:09Here's Carl Velasco with the report.
00:19Despite starting the tournament with a 4-0 record, the Guilas Filipinas were surprised by the gallant effort of the Chinese Taipei last Thursday in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
00:29held in Heping Basketball Gymnasium in Taiwan.
00:33The sharp-shooting trio of Tin Chien-Lin, Chun Xiang-Lu, and Albaquil Gadiaga led the offense by shooting seven-threes that helped the home team to gain a double-digit lead in the first half.
00:45Before halftime, Guilas gained momentum after a Dwight Ramos triple and was able to cut the lead to a single possession, 47-45.
00:54In the third period, the national team struggled yet again while the home team took advantage to gain a double-digit lead, ending the quarter 71-61.
01:03In the final canto, Gene Forward Justin Brownlee took over and started with a 10-0 run, cutting the lead of the home team while also gaining momentum.
01:12But the home team finally answered with a back-to-back trace and a dagger from Chun Xiang-Lu.
01:17The Chinese Taipei spoils Brownlee's 39-point effort with a 91-84 loss.
01:22Meanwhile, Guilas' head coach Tim Cohn cannot hide the dismay in his face.
01:27This is the first loss of the Guilas against the Chinese Taipei in over a decade.
01:53On the other hand, the Philippine national team is still qualified for the 2025 Asia Cup this August after sweeping their two window games.
02:04They will face the tough New Zealand Tall Blacks for a rematch this Sunday, February 23.
02:11Carl Velasco from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
