00:04That is what the National Defense Secretary Gilbert Chidoro talked about

00:09when he visited the Defense Minister of Japan.

00:16Rafi, I met Defense Secretary Gilberto Chidoro Jr. in Makati City

00:21and the Japanese Defense Minister visited Tanigen

00:24for their bilateral defense ministerial meeting.

00:27Chidoro assured that the Philippines and Japan will continue to strengthen their partnership

00:33in the rules-based international order and free Indo-Pacific region

00:37against the unilateral attempts of some countries such as China to change it.

00:41Katani thanked Chidoro for his warm welcome in the Philippines.

00:46The regional security environment is becoming more complicated

00:49and the Philippines and Japan need to widen it even more.

00:53Chidoro said that as far as the security of the region is concerned,

00:57the Philippines and Japan have a strong relationship with the East Sea and the South China Sea.

01:00The Philippines and Japan are grateful because we are the first beneficiaries of their overseas security assistance.

01:06Katani said that Japan wants to strengthen its defense cooperation with the Philippines.

01:12First, there should be a higher level of operational cooperation.

01:17Second, there should be a stronger people-to-people exchange,

01:20just like those in the Wallace Air Station that ended in the Japanese National Defense Academy.

01:25Third, it should be about defense equipment and technology cooperation.

01:29Yesterday, the Air Base in Pampanga and the Wallace Air Base in La Union

01:34were targeted by the radar facility that is part of the loan of Japan to the Philippines,

01:39their defense secretary.

01:41According to Chidoro, it is an important part of the maritime domain capability

01:45and it needs to have more radar that will be installed in different parts of the country.

01:49The radar system in La Union is part of the P5.5 billion in the soft loan of Japan to the Philippines

01:55for the four radar systems.
