00:00This is a bitter election result for the Social-Democratic Party.
00:04This is also a defeat.
00:06German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has conceded defeat in the general elections.
00:11The 66-year-old chancellor of about three and a half years
00:14told the Social-Democratic Party supporters that it was a bitter result to swallow.
00:20Scholz and the supporters made it clear that the party will not have any cooperation
00:24with the far-right AfD party to form the government.
00:28We will not have any cooperation with the far-right party.
00:31The Social-Democratic Party stands by this clear course and we hope
00:36and we believe that all others will continue to show this attitude in the coming years.
00:41So it's very disappointing obviously it's the worst result since the second world war
00:45so it's a clear defeat.
00:48It's also very worrying to see that the AfD is now the second strongest party in Germany
00:53which is a very bad signal for Germany but also for Europe.
00:56I think the result of the AfD of the right-wing party is very high
01:00and yeah I think it was necessary to make clear that there will be
01:07no cooperation with the AfD for the democratic parties.
01:13The conservative CDU-CSU alliance came in the first place in the election on Sunday
01:19with 28.6 percent of the votes ahead of AfD which garnered 20.8 percent of votes.
01:27Social-Democratic Party came third with 16.4 percent of votes.
01:36CDU-CSU leader Friedrich Merz celebrated their win and he is on track to become the next chancellor
01:43but he is heading into what are likely to be lengthy coalition talks
01:47without a strong negotiating hand.
02:17AfD's candidate for chancellor Alice Weidel hailed the party's best ever election result
02:30saying that they are ready to take part in the government to implement the will of the people of Germany.
