The shadow environment secretary has blasted the Labour government for the "third" increase in energy bills since coming to power. Victoria Atkins also criticised the government's approach to energy, including "plonking pylons across the country".

00:00Well this will be yet another blow to households across the country because this is the third
00:05increase, consecutive increase under this Labour government and of course they promised us at the
00:10election that they were going to reduce energy bills by some 300 pounds by the end of the decade.
00:15Instead families are going to have to be dealing with these increased costs. I mean the Labour
00:19government now have to really explain what it is they're doing with energy. They talk big plans,
00:24they invest billions of pounds in an energy company that doesn't produce any energy,
00:28yet what we need to see is why we need explanations as to why for example they're
00:32not opening up oil fields in the North Sea. We need sensible plans about running a grid along
00:38the east coast of the United Kingdom to get energy to where it's needed rather than these
00:43plans of plonking pylons across the country including my own constituency.
