Taiwan's Roadside Banquets: Keeping a Tradition Alive

Roadside banquets are an important part of traditional Taiwanese food culture and have been around for centuries. At one point, this kind of feast was held for virtually every big event or celebration in Taiwan: birthdays, weddings, when a baby was born. Each banquet takes hours of preparation, coordination and teamwork to put on.

But despite the joy they bring, roadside banquets are dying out in Taiwan, and while some say their disappearance is inevitable, others are working hard to preserve this distinctive tradition.
