00:00Good evening, Kapuso! I am your Kuya Kim and I will give you the trivia behind the trending news.
00:10The big news of the past few days is about an asteroid that might hit our planet. What is the latest update on this?
00:17There have been a lot of alarms about an asteroid that might hit our planet in 2032.
00:27This is the Asteroid 2024-YR4, which is estimated to be 130 to 300 feet in size.
00:33Just last week, it was estimated to hit our planet with a 3.1% chance.
00:38The impact of this asteroid might be similar to a nuclear explosion.
00:42It is also 500 times stronger than the Hiroshima bomb.
00:45There is good news. After the successful study of the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies of NASA in the trajectory of 2024-YR4,
00:53this week, the impact probability of the estimated asteroid was found to be 1 in 20,000 or 0.005%.
01:00It is now Level 0 in the Torino Impact Hazard Scale.
01:03This means that it is no longer a threat to our planet.
01:06But did you know that this is not the only asteroid that might hit Earth?
01:10Another asteroid was discovered and it was estimated to be the most hazardous asteroid that might hit Earth in 2029 or four years from now.
01:17What kind of asteroid is it? And there is something we should be worried about.
01:26This is the Asteroid 999-42 Apophis Near-Earth Object, which is 1,100 feet in size.
01:32It was discovered in 2004 and it was estimated to be one of the most hazardous asteroids on our planet.
01:38This might hit Earth in 2029.
01:41But with the help of a radar campaign observation in March 2021,
01:45and precise orbit analysis,
01:47the experts of Apophis, like the 2024-YR4,
01:51there is also no risk of hitting Earth in the next century.
01:56Thank you, Lord.
