00:00The number of cases of child sexual exploitation on the internet in the Philippines increased in 2023,
00:08and experts are concerned that the number of such cases will increase,
00:13especially if it is not monitored.
00:16Here are the statistics to support Ian's claim.
00:24In just one year,
00:26the number of cases of child sexual exploitation on the internet in the Philippines increased to 2.7 million
00:33by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or NECMEC of the United States in 2023.
00:40They are now submitting the cases to our Department of Justice.
00:43These are the leads or tips that eventually become cases.
00:47That is what our government is pursuing.
00:49But a child rights organization is worried that the number of victims is increasing.
00:54It emerged from their studies that young people are switching to unpopular online platforms
01:00so that their parents cannot monitor them.
01:03Right now, it's high time for all of us, from parents to schools, to look into these non-mainstream platforms.
01:11The parents' mainstay is the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
01:16As of now, not all child abuse can be reported online.
01:21In fact, only five incidents were reported to them from January 1 to February 10.
01:28We see a lot of people giving gadgets to their children so that they won't be noisy.
01:33But the parents don't know what sites or links they can click and bring them there.
01:42According to a telco, they help by blocking unwanted content.
01:48Since June 2021, they have blocked 1.6 million websites.
01:53Since June 2024, they have blocked more than a million attempts to access abusive sites.
