00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It's a cold one this morning with some showers in the mix, drier inland with some sunshine.
00:10This low pressure which brought showery rain yesterday is clearing towards Denmark.
00:14You can see here a ridge extending across, so for the last day of meteorological winter,
00:19it's fine and mostly dry with some sunshine.
00:22The winds then pick up towards the west with some outbreaks of rain arriving, more about that in a moment.
00:26Let's pick up some detail on this morning.
00:29We have seen showers overnight across Wales and the west country, they're tending to fade away.
00:34At the same time though, a strong wind along this eastern side of England,
00:38and again we'll see a little bit of wet weather associated with the showery burst.
00:41That's the low pressure which is clearing off the scene, but it will be a breezy day here, feeling cold in that wind.
00:46Inland, it's a fine start, a mix of cloud as well as some sunshine,
00:50and frosty across some parts of southern, central and eastern Scotland.
00:54Further west, we can see one or two showers clipping Northern Ireland first thing,
00:57as well as the western side of Scotland, a few showers also across Orkney and Shetland and Caithness.
01:03But for many, it's a dry day, it's a bright one with some sunny spells coming through.
01:09Now this morning, there is more in the way of cloud across the Midlands and eastern counties associated with this low here,
01:16but it is clearing eastwards and the cloud will break.
01:21At the same time, some sunshine for many areas with those scattering the showers coming in across the north as well as the west.
01:27Showers will develop inland across Northern Ireland, even southern Scotland, the far north-west of England through the day,
01:33and a mix of cloud and sun through the afternoon as temperatures arrive around 7 to 10 degrees Celsius,
01:39just around average for this time of year in the south.
01:42Now through this evening and overnight, the cloud will tend to break up, temperatures falling away,
01:47it's going to be a cold night. The winds will ease towards the east, the risk of some freezing fog inland,
01:53and towards the west, that wind picks up a little bit of strength into Friday morning.
01:58So a fairly widespread frost to start the day on Friday, but it will be a bright one.
02:02Yet again, the cloud could build through the middle part of the day, most places dry, with some brighter weather through the afternoon.
02:09Let's pick up on that rain on Saturday. So this is the first day of meteorological spring,
02:14and it starts with some rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:17But as this front moves down towards high pressure, it will tend to weaken and lose its identity.
02:23And certainly for the first part of Saturday across England, Wales, it's a clear start with some freezing fog,
02:29and you will see some brighter weather here, if not some sunshine.
02:32Notice though, as this weather front sinks southwards, we lose a lot of the rain,
02:37it's a little bit showery in places for southern Scotland, the far north of England, north-west Wales through the afternoon.
02:43Either side though, it's bright with some sunshine.
02:46Temperatures yet again around 10 Celsius, a lighter wind across England and Wales,
02:51and across the far north-west of Scotland, yet again a bit of a brisk breeze.
02:54At least though, you'll see some brighter weather to end the day.
02:57Temperatures 9 or 10 degrees Celsius.
03:00So all in all, that's the picture on Saturday.
03:03This front remains in situ into Sunday, but it's dry by this point,
03:07and most places seeing a fine day after a cold start,
03:10some good spells of sunshine coming through, and temperatures on the up just a little bit.
03:14It's worth remembering there will be some starry skies around through the next few nights,
03:19so remember to look up and spot the planetary parade.
